== NPC Lt Andrea Tate ==

Andrea entered the main medical facility in search of one of the counselling staff and located Kate Fletcher. There were a couple of people on staff, which was the luxury of being on such a large ship. They actually had a staff and not just a single person filling the role. Most smaller ships had to depend on the skills of a single doctor for such matters. Andrea had been at this a long time now and preferred not being in uniform unless required. She found it to be more appropriate and less clinical to wear professional civilian attire.

Andrea's warm smile and maternal approach always seemed to help break the ice in a very natural way, "Lieutenant Fletcher, I'm Lieutenant Tate, but please call me Andrea."

Kate Fletcher offered her hand with a smile and a nod, "Ah yes, I received a message, but it only game me your rank and last name and little else. You can call me Kate. How can I help you?"

Andrea rolled her eyes a little, "Yes, I'm afraid that even after being with them for more than a half dozen years, Star Fleet Head Quarters isn't getting any better about having a more personal feel to their correspondences in the field. I fear that I might never win that battle. Anyway, I'm afraid that one of your crew has suffered a serious family loss. She's a previous patient of mine, Jez Mala. You and I both have backgrounds in trauma medicine and know that familiar faces can help in such matters. In this case, both of her parents were murdered and HQ thought it might be a good idea if I dropped by to look in on her. It's no reflection on your staff and I wanted to stop by here first. This is your ship and crew, I'm only a visitor. I wanted to assure you and your staff that my notes will be added to ehr medical files and I'll be following all protocols to document any sessions. I'm not here to replace any of your staff, but to hopefully add to and help the process. I'll also give an opportunity for a full debrief, if you wish, once my visit is complete."

Kate nodded and smiled, "I can tell that you've done this before. I hope you don't mind my asking, but did you arrive on that Runabout that just landed?"

"Yes, I know it might be a bit unconventional, but as time was a factor, I hopped a ride with a friend."

Kate had also been around for a while and narrowed her eyes, but kept the smile on her face, "Forgive me, but...Star Fleet HQ is not quite next door. That craft can't even reach even reach warp 5. even if it was on a larger craft for the distance, it would require some pretty special hoops to jump through to get here that fast."

Andrea smiled and paused just long enough for effect before answering, "I have interesting friends, as does Miss Mala."

Kate knew that she was not likely to get more of an answer than that and had a hunch that she knew part of the answer, but that it was something she should let go for now. "Interesting friends, indeed. Well, please let us know if you need anything. I'll have you registered as being on the ship and cleared for all applicable medical access as needed."

They made only a little small talk as they then parted ways, but it certainly made Kate curious about who their friends were. She had heard some of the rumors and hadn't really given it much thought...until now.

Jez took a moment to learn about Human Ocular implants. She took out her Data Padd and typed Human Ocular Implants. She was truly surprised at the level of detail it contained, but she wanted to understand what was going on.  Jez could only imagine that, for Cindy, she knew this stuff forwards and backwards and could explain it in a simple matter-of-fact manner.

[ STARFLEET MEDICAL DATABASE
HUMAN OCULAR IMPLANT — MODEL HOI-24C (STANDARD FEDERATION ISSUE)
1. SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The HOI-24C is a Class II bio-neural ocular prosthetic designed to fully replace or augment a human eye while preserving native visual pathways. The system replicates the functional behavior of the organic eye (light intake, focus, adaptation, and signal transduction) while providing enhanced spectral and computational capabilities.

The implant integrates directly with the optic nerve and visual cortex, allowing seamless perceptual continuity with minimal neural retraining (average adaptation time: 3.2 hours).

2. PRIMARY COMPONENTS

2.1 Corneal Interface Lens (CIL)

Transparent tritanium-reinforced bio-polymer
Self-healing micro-layer to resist abrasion
Variable refractive index (dynamic focus adjustment)

2.2 Adaptive Aperture Assembly (AAA)

Functions as artificial iris/pupil
Responds to light intensity in <0.8 ms
Supports manual override for tactical or medical use

2.3 Photonic Sensor Matrix (PSM)

Multi-spectrum sensor array (200–1100 nm standard)
Optional upgrades: subspace variance detection, EM flux mapping
Resolution equivalent: ~12K human baseline

2.4 Neural Signal Processor Core (NSPC)

Bio-neural gel pack with isolinear co-processing
Converts photonic input into electrochemical signals
Latency: <1.2 ms (below human perception threshold)

2.5 Optic Nerve Interface Ring (ONIR)

Direct axonal coupling via nano-synaptic filaments
Self-aligning during implantation
Includes redundancy pathways to prevent signal loss

2.6 Scleral Anchor System (SAS)

Micro-anchor points secure implant within orbital cavity
Flexible to accommodate minor trauma or pressure changes
Non-invasive removal supported

2.7 Power Induction Coil (PIC)

Draws energy from body bioelectric field
Backup: inductive charge via dermal interface (temporal bone)
Average consumption: 0.8 mW

2.8 Thermal Regulation Grid (TRG)

Dissipates excess heat into surrounding tissue safely
Maintains operating temperature between 34–40°C

2.9 Diagnostic Sensor Suite (DSS)

Monitors alignment, signal fidelity, and tissue compatibility
Interfaces with tricorder and sickbay systems in real time
3. FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES
Full visual restoration (baseline human parity or higher)
Low-light amplification (up to 600% enhancement)
Spectral shift viewing (infrared/near-UV)
Zoom magnification (up to 10x without resolution loss)
Image stabilization & motion prediction assistance
HUD overlay compatibility (Starfleet standard interface)
4. NEURAL INTEGRATION

The HOI-24C establishes a closed-loop connection with the user’s visual cortex via the optic nerve:

Signal Input: Photonic → digital → electrochemical conversion
Signal Output: Mimics natural retinal firing patterns
Adaptation Layer: Learns host neural firing patterns within minutes
Fail-safe Mode: Reverts to baseline visual feed if anomalies detected
5. SAFETY & REDUNDANCY
Triple-redundant signal pathways
Auto-shutdown in case of neural overload
EMP shielding (Class B resistance)
Biocompatible materials eliminate immune rejection in 99.98% of cases
6. OPTIONAL ENHANCEMENTS (NON-STANDARD ISSUE)
Subspace imaging module (restricted to command-level authorization)
Facial recognition database link
Tactical threat analysis overlay
Recording and playback buffer (up to 72 hours)
7. INSTALLATION NOTES
Procedure duration: ~45 minutes (non-invasive cranial access)
Requires micro-neural alignment calibration
Post-op recovery: immediate functionality, full calibration within 12 hours
8. LIMITATIONS
Overuse of enhanced modes may cause neural fatigue
Subspace modules can interfere with standard perception if improperly calibrated
Requires periodic diagnostic scan (recommended every 6 months) ]

Jez was shocked; the information was overwhelming. What she didn't understand was why Mike didn't have a cloned replacement eye instead?

There was indeed a great deal of information available about the details of various prosthetic devices. The list seemed almost endless. Some were small devices that replaced relatively minor things and helped to compensate for weakened senses or helped regulate various organ functions, but there was a much longer list of things that were replacements for internal organ, skeletal structures and entire limbs. There were several papers that discussed the integration of several different devices and how they could be networked and combined effectively. There were endless footnotes and indicators attached to almost every one of these and looking at the footnotes more closely, nearly half of them were indicated that they were designed by the Talion Foundation, with references to a long list of their efforts to make such things available to those who were unable to receive organic replacements. The Taion Foundation had approval listings for both military and civilian variants of most devices, though upon close examination, the more extreme military designs were by other designers and research organizations. The Talion designs were the most prolific with various colonies and more remote worlds that didn't always have access to the higher tech required for the growing of replacement organs or were used as with the Ambassador, when there wasn't time to wait for such a process to be completed in the field.

Jez did notice that there was no reference to how far the devices could be integrated and there was no mention anywhere about Cindy and her chassis, which was essentially an entire person created with these devices. They all referenced neural interfaces and the detailed integration of transceivers with existing neural networks. Beyond that it became classified, but it was all quite confusing unless you had a degree in the field. Typically, most enhancements, other than replication of basic functions, were restricted to Star Fleet and Authorized personnel only, often requiring approval by higher command authorities with specific clearances. There were various cautions and reminders that strict protocols had to be followed, a clear indication that encountering the Borg had made most people a bit nervous about keeping such enhancements under control. There were serious penalties for making unauthorized modifications, though software alterations could easily result in damage to the patient either physically or mentally and required certifications.

It should be noted that the majority of prosthetics were designed to deliberately be very hard to tell the difference between synthetic and organic. Most people wanted to feel like their old self, not a machine. The goal was typically for a patient to almost forget that they had a replacement part. It should look, feel and act like the real thing. They might not sweat, but they felt real and even could duplicate blush responses and gave an artificial pulse in key locations. Without a tricorder scan, the average person should not be able to determine that a patient was fitted with a prosthetic. There were examples of an entire lower torso and legs being replaced and they looked completely human. Though that was a key thing to note, most of the research had been done for humans, though there was a long list of constant ongoing efforts to expand it, with cross references to elements that were already able to be used by several other species.

Jez was seeing her beloved mentor in a new light, she always remembered him as a Powerful man, but to learn that he had an ocular implant seemed to change that perception Mike was an excellent fighter, he hit like a sledgehammer. Jez had sparred with him on many occasions, and felt his Spinning Back Kicks, as well as his Eagle Claw strikes.

She watched as Mike hopped up on the examination table. It was weird to see him so…so vulnerable. Maybe Jez was now seeing Mike through adult eyes and not the eyes of a child, not the eyes of a teenager who had a crush on her teacher.

Jez was suddenly hit with a wave of sadness, her family had been murdered Jez was worried that Mike may be heading off into something he can’t handle, something that may get him hurt or worse, killed. Jez turned to Alex, “ Can I speak to you in private?” Said Jez, her voice a mixture of fear and concern.

== To clarify, Cindy is with you in Sickbay, not Alex, but I understand what you meant. ==

Cindy Excused herself for a moment with Dalton and stepped aside with Jez, "Is something wrong?" She had kept her voice low, unsure why their conversation might need to be private, but was happy to try and comply with Lt Mala's request.

Jez was not sure how to answer Cindy’s question. Was there something wrong? Jez couldn’t help escape the idea that Mike was in danger; she wasn’t just thinking that as Mike’s friend, family. or student, but she was thinking that in her capacity as Acting Security Chief.

“Cindy, something tells me that Mike is running off half-cocked; he’s running off on vengeance and grief. He doesn’t have any facts, no solid details, no hard evidence. I’m afraid he’s going to get hurt. Is there any way you could, I don’t know….prolong his stay here, maybe find a medical issue that would require him to stay for a few months until the covert ops team comes up with some solid evidence?” suggested Jez.

Jez would rather wait and see what the Special Operations Team would find out. She knew there were several possibilities as to what had happened. It might have been mercenaries or pirates who killed her parents. Maybe her parents accidentally disturbed someone’s territory, maybe they accidentally offended some locals. What was needed right now was calm, level-headed thinking and planning, not to run at a problem with anger and vengeance.

Cindy looked at Jez for a moment and took in the details of her body language. There was a brief glance to Dalton before looking back at Jez and saying, "Listen, even if I could find something, it would only work for a day or two. He's experienced with Security and would quickly pick up on the fact that we would be stalling. Your best course of action is to get him to wait for information. You're right, if he goes off on his own, he's going to be compromised emotionally and make a mistake. You need to encourage him to let our people do their jobs and cover the leg work of investigating and tracking things down. If there's anything to know, they're going to find it."

She paused to let that sink in and then spoke again, "Jez, what he described doesn't really make sense. It sounds more to me like someone deliberately came in and did what they did, then left too many loose threads to intentionally send people sniffing in the wrong directions. Those leads will each go in a different direction and put those searching right in some deadend location where there will be an ambush waiting. In the interim, the real offenders will be long gone, hiding their tracks and heading to a safe place to lay low while the the investigation goes nowhere. It's what I would do. However, our people are trained for such things. We expect there to be traps and ambushes. We know what to look for. We'll find the things that are out of place and see if we can discover a mistake somewhere. No matter how careful you are, you can't plan on everything and sooner or later a mistake is made. Someone you didn't think saw anything actually saw something that makes a difference and so on. The universe has too many variables and nobody is perfect."

Looking her in the eye and saying it slowly, Cindy asked, "Jez...my understanding is that there may be no actual jurisdiction over this area. If we find them, what do you want us to do? This is a grey area. Obviously, we'll question them, but you need to know where you stand on this. You might want to think on that for a bit before you try to answer. Don't worry, the team will do everything they can to take these people alive, but they might not allow us to do that. If we catch them, I can promise that they will be kept alive and will not hurt people again, but it might be better if you leave it at that. As a Star Fleet Officer, you might want plausible deniability to whatever their eventual fate might be. That's all I'm saying."

Cindy brought up many good points. Mike was a former Security Chief; he probably has seen more dodges and tricks than anyone. Then an idea came to her: what if there was a medical delay? Jez knew that implants were custom to each individual; chances were excellent that Sickbay wouldn’t have the necessary parts for his Ocular implant, and they had to wait for a supply run from the Bynar sector or something.

“Cindy, I know implants are custom to each individual; chances are excellent that Sickbay wouldn’t have the necessary parts for Mike’s Ocular implant, and we have to wait for a supply run from the Bynar sector or something. Couldn’t you tell him that, or say that he has high cholesterol, or something?” Asked Jez with a hint of worry in her voice.

Jez looked back at Mike and sighed, “Cindy, I don’t have any idea who would wish my parents harm. They were just Archeologists; they never harmed anyone. I know Mike, he’s angry and upset. And when someone is angry and upset, they make mistakes, and when you're chasing murderers, often your last mistake is more often than not fatal, especially if they don’t want to be caught. Oh, don’t get me wrong, Mike is uncanny and clever, for a man, but his Viking Blood runs thick. He says his ancestors were Viking berserkers. Viking berserkers were elite Norse warriors known for fighting with uncontrollable, animalistic rage (berserkergangr), often devoted to Odin. They wore bear or wolf skins, fought without armor, and were considered shock troops feared for their invincibility, often biting shields and howling before combat. I swear, Viking is just another word for stubborn and pig-headed.” Said Jez.

Jez returned her gaze to Cindy. “Cindy, I’ve already lost my parents; I don’t want to lose Mike. If I’m completely honest, I’m not particularly upset. My parents and I weren’t that close. I mean, yes, I’m sad, I’m upset, I’m confused, but growing up, they were more focused on their work than on what I was doing. I was closer to Mike and his wife than I was to my parents. Oh, it’s not that mother and father didn’t care, it's just that their careers distracted them.” Said Jez, her voice sounded a bit strained, like she was fighting back tears. “I want justice for my parents and my friends, but I want to build an iron-clad case against the murderers. I don’t want any chance of them slipping through the cracks.” Added Jez.

Cindy gave a small sigh and replied to Jez, "These implants are designed to be able to be fabricated and maintained in remote areas where a replicator can be used. It takes a few extra minutes to make, but lack of fancy facilities and supply lines are part of the reason they exist. He would know this."

At hearing Jez explain Viking culture, Cindy smiled, "Yes, I'm aware of the history. I have the honor of being one of the Valkyrie unit. We're named for the legendary choosers of the slain on the battlefield. Sarah chose the name because we're all women and although half are for Odin and his army, the other half, especially women, belong to Freyja and are not beholden to Odin. Perhaps I can use that though. Do you think it would help?"

Jez smiled at Cindy’s honesty, “ Cindy, normally I would agree with you, but Ted ... .uhh, Mike is still processing his grief and sorting out his rage, I doubt that he will pick up on our little subterfuge, our schematical shortcomings. CIndy, lie and say you found something on his scans and that you want him to stay for further tests, anything that will keep him here at least for a few days. Please, CIndy, I know lying isn’t part of your programming, don’t think of it as lying, think of it as an acting lesson,” Suggested Jez.

Jez knew that human men especially men Mike's age could be stubborn and Jez had no idea why that was, she wasn’t sure if it was genetics, or just specific to Mike, Jez had a real problem on her hands, a stubborn middle aged ex Star Fleet Security Officer on her hands.

“CIndy, surely there have been times when you had to out maneuver Commander Talion. I’m just asking you to use that same brilliance on Mike.” Added Jez.

A hint of a devilish grin appeared on Cindy as she confessed, "You would be correct.  My programming doesn't prevent me from lying, but it does focus on my ability to anticipate the needs of others. I can give you a couple of days, but that's it."

Cindy then returned to examining Mister Dalton. She actually had a very kind and attentive bedside  manner, always offering a warm smile and soft tone of her voice, yet never spoke in a condescending way. It didn't take her long to run a standard recalibration and diagnostic.

When she had finished, she said, "Well Mister Dalton, I've recalibrated your implant, but the variance was slightly more than from your previous maintenance updates. Based on my scans, I took a sample from your optic nerve for testing. I want to do a culture to rule out a mild infection. You haven't visited Risa in the last 6 months, have you? Certain infections seem to be more common there and aren't always easy to detect."

Mike shifted uncomfortably and cleared his throat before responding, "Um...no...no such visits..."

Still smiling, Cindy continued, "Well, that's good. It will still take about 48 hours to complete, just to be sure. I'll let you know. You're free to go for now and I can let you know the results when the lab results are in. I suggest not leaving until I clear you, as it could begin affecting your other eye if we need to treat you."

Jez was ecstatic when Cindy said, "You would be correct.  My programming doesn't prevent me from lying, but it does focus on my ability to anticipate the needs of others. I can give you a couple of days, but that's it."

Jez would take it, anything to get Mike into a better place mentally, a chance for the Valkyries to gather what information they could, to gather some really solid leads and not go running off like a Bull in a China Shop. It wasn’t that he couldn’t handle himself; it’s just in grief one tends to make mistakes.

Jez smiled and mouthed to Cindy, “Thank you, I owe you.”

Jez also knew that Mike was a bit of a hypochondriac.

Mike was growing a bit impatient. Mike almost fell off the exam table when Cindy said, "Well Mister Dalton, I've recalibrated your implant, but the variance was slightly more than from your previous maintenance updates. Based on my scans, I took a sample from your optic nerve for testing. I want to do a culture to rule out a mild infection. You haven't visited Risa in the last 6 months, have you? Certain infections seem to be more common there and aren't always easy to detect."

“Wait, what, an infection? " Questioned Mike, his voice a little worried.

Mike knew that Risa was most noted for its native population having a frank and open attitude to sexuality. It’s not that Mike was a prude or anything; he had been happily married. Risa was noted to be a place that singles often go, seeking jamaharon, he knew about Horga'hn’s. Mike suddenly felt a little embarrassed thinking about the implications if he had been on Risa.  “NO, !!! I haven’t been on Risa, EVER! “ Stated Mike, his tone filled with mild indignation

Hoping to change the subject. “ Please, don’t call me Mister Dalton, that’s my father. I’m Michael, or Mike,” Stated Mike.  “So, my implant might have an infection, is it serious? Can you treat it?” Enquired Mike, his tone a little worried.

=Lieutenant Jez Mala, Betazoid/ Vulcan, Security Officer, Acting Security Chief.==

Jez was so happy that Cindy had seemed to thoroughly distract Mike. She definitely knew they had bought some time.

“Relax, Mike, Cindy is amazing, you're in excellent hands. “ Stated Jez. Jez wanted to make sure they created the maximum distraction. “Cindy, maybe we could have Commander Talion look at Mike’s implant and offer some suggestions or improvements?” Said Jez.

Cindy tool a step closer to Dalton and placed a hand on his shoulder, softening her voice a bit to try and calm him, "Mike, I didn't mean to alarm you and certainly didn't intend to offend you. There is likely nothing wrong with you. I tend to be very good at what I do and as a medical professional, I want to be sure that I cover all aspects of your care. There was one element of my scan that could simply be a minor irritation from not getting enough sleep. Given the circumstances, it would be quite understandable. I just want to be certain that I have done my diligence in my duties. Jez asked me to take a look and help you, because she knows I do a good job."

When Jez asked about Lex taking a look, Cindy frowned, "Well, from a medical point of view, he isn't certified for surgical procedures, but he does specialize in the research and development aspects of the work. I'm certainly not going to stop Mike from speaking with him about it, but I should be able to answer most any questions he might have. Given that Mike is not longer active duty, it would greatly depend on what sort of updates or modifications he was interested in. Alex has a rather strong opinion against dramatic modifications. He is not in the business of creating super soldiers. Alex prefers to focus on restoring quality of life to people who hope to get their lives back after the trauma of a life altering injury. When people look at me, I want them to be unable to tell what part or parts of me are not human. If people have synthetic organs or limbs, they should be able to almost forget that they aren't what they were born with."

Looking at Jez, Cindy restated, "You don't need to tell me right away, but I am going to need an answer to that question I asked you before. Our people are not murderers nor are they mercenaries, but they are very capable and unless there is a very clear course of action required, they will do their best to capture and neutralize the threat. If they are determined to have had justification in their actions, which I doubt, but it will be considered, then they might be allowed to be handed over to an appropriate government official. If not, then there are options that might be discussed, but it is entirely possible that it will be left in our hands." Cindy paused, "I don't mean Star Fleet or Federation hands, I mean OUR hands. The people we sent have their own way of dealing with such situations and as the family of the victims, you will certainly have some say in the justice process. If you don't wish them to complete their mission, then let us know and we will recall them. If you would rather not know the result, then I understand that as well. The point is that it is now out of your hands and you can return to your lives as best you can. It is likely best if you don't know what eventually happens to those who did this and consider the matter closed. I do encourage you to speak with Counselor Tate about it. You're very familiar with her and she has arrived on the ship to stay with us for a little while. Alex thought she might help if you needed someone to talk to."

When Cindy said, "Mike, I didn't mean to alarm you and certainly didn't intend to offend you. There is likely nothing wrong with you. Mike, the forever macho alpha male type, couldn’t allow himself to appear weak. “ Oh,,, I,, I umhhhh… I wasn’t worried. Mike was truly fascinated by Cindy; he wasn’t sure if she was an android, a hologram, or some combination of the two. “Yeah, Jez told me that you are truly someone special.“ Said Mike, his voice filled with curiosity.

Jez couldn’t resist teasing her mentor, “Cindy, maybe you could augment Mike’s implant with a calorie-counting algorithm?” Said Jez, as she playfully patted Mike’s paunch.

Sighing and shaking his head,” For the love of Odin, ignore Miss Funny Pants. It might be useful if I could have a function in my eye that told me things like temperature, humidity, and distance. “ Retorted Mike.

Mike, like every man in his family, developed a paunch as soon as he hit forty, but somehow that gave him an advantage. People saw him and thought he was an out-of-shape, middle-aged, harmless man, but Mike excelled in various martial arts.

Jez was a bit surprised when Cindy asked her, "You don't need to tell me right away, but I am going to need an answer to that question I asked you before. If not, then there are options that might be discussed, but it is entirely possible that it will be left in our hands."

Jez hadn’t given it much thought; it was a very interesting question. What would they do, when and if the Valkyries did manage to find the people responsible for this, whose jurisdiction did it fall into, the Klingons’, or the Gorn? The Federation made it clear that it wasn't a Federation issue, despite it involving Federation citizens. Yes, it happened outside of Federation Space, so the question was who is the legal authority.

Cindy paused, "I don't mean Star Fleet or Federation hands, I mean OUR hands. The people we sent have their own way of dealing with such situations and as the family of the victims, you will certainly have some say in the justice process. If you don't wish them to complete their mission, then let us know, and we will recall them. If you would rather not know the result, then I understand that as well. Jez had spoken with Counselor Tate before, and she always gave the best advice. What Cindy said made complete and perfect sense, but she wasn’t sure how Mike would view the situation. He was a take-charge kind of guy. He, in all likely hood want to throw down and storm off and drag those responsible to prison.

“Cindy, let's see what, if anything, the Valkyries turn up and then go from there.” Suggested Jez.

Cindy gave Mike a devilish grin, "For the love of Freyja, no Valkyrie would ever look down on a man for having a fondness for mead. There's nothing wrong with this man that a good meal and a warm fire couldn't make feel better. Forgive him the simple fact that his heart aches from his loss and like any protective soul, his heart now seeks justice from the cold void of space."

She then looked at him while she took in a slow breath and let it out equally slowly, looking him in the eye, "Mike, I know you think you seek answers, but so did Odin. He gave up one of his eyes to try and see more. You're already down one eye. I've sent professionals after those who did this and they never tire and cannot be stopped. I can't promise you the ending you might think you want, but I can promise you that if there are answers to be found, they will find them. If there is justice to be delivered, let your hands be clean of it and your mind be free of it. Our family is very protective and Jez has been taken in by our family. She herself is only just beginning to understand what that means. i ask you to trust us. Do you think you can do that?"

Cindy then handed Mike a PADD, "Your current version of sofware already has a subroutine for what you asked for. Here are hte instructions on how to access it. I find the tricky part is to bring up a targeting rectile and lock it onto the spot you trying to get information about. Range, temperature, humidity and atmospheric wind speed are the most common. The default range device uses IR wavelength, but you can switch it to UV, if you prefer. It is simply intended to be outside the normal visual range is all and is adjustable, in the event you don't want it seen by common sensors or species that can see in those wavelengths. Those instructions will show you how to turn it on and off, as well as how to change the display position and so on. Personally, I find the temperature one to be very handy, so I know by looking at my coffee if it is the right temperature or not. I don't know about you, but I've never been one for cold coffee."

Finally, offering him a polite but sassy smile, Cindy asked, "Is there anything else I can do for you, Mike?"

Jez couldn’t help but smirk a little. She was happy that CIndy and Mike seem to be getting along and their whole Viking Sags bond thing was interesting. Mike usually kept people, especially strangers at arms length, but Cindy had a way of growing on people. So for a grumpy old man like Mike to not keep Cindy at arms length was surprising, Mike was a create of habit, every day was the same, up at five, work out till six forty-five, quick shower and then off to work, Breakfast was oatmeal with sliced Bananas, Lunch was Gravlaks, a Salmon cured with salt, sugar, and dill, often served with mustard sauce. And dinner was Fårikål: Mutton and cabbage stew, often called Norway's national dish or Fenalår: A cured, dried leg of mutton similar to Parma ham.

Jez smiled when CIndy had said, “Jez has been taken in by our family. She herself is only just beginning to understand what that means. I ask you to trust us. Do you think you can do that?"

It was true, Commander Talion and Cindy welcomed her and have helped her greatly, “ Mike, It’s true, CIndy and Commander Talion are absolutely the best people, they are helping me with the custody case.” Said Jez,

Jez then realized she hadn’t told Mike about her being pregnant, She felt her heart in her throat.

Mike nodded and smiled when Cindy said, "Mike, I know you think you seek answers, but so did Odin. He gave up one of his eyes to try and see more. You're already down one eye. I've sent professionals after those who did this, and they never tire and cannot be stopped. I can't promise you the ending you might think you want, but I can promise you that if there are answers to be found, they will find them. If there is justice to be delivered, let your hands be clean of it, and your mind be free of it. Our family is very protective, and Jez has been taken in by our family. She herself is only just beginning to understand what that means. I ask you to trust us. Do you think you can do that?"

Mike let out a small sigh. He had been listening to everything that Cindy had said since they entered Sickbay. She made several excellent points; he couldn’t deny that. He knew more evidence would make for a stronger case, and maybe running into the situation blind was a mistake. Speaking to everyone, “I’ve decided to visit with Mrs. Funny Pants here for a while, then I’m going to Vulcan to return my wife’s remains to her family. Then I’m going to Earth to see my family. I haven’t seen my mother and father in years.” Stated Mike," You're right, let's build a strong case and see where the evidence takes us." Added Mike.

Mike smiled as Cindy then handed him a PADD and said, "Your current version of software already has a subroutine for what you asked for. Here are the instructions on how to access it. I find the tricky part is to bring up a targeting reticle and lock it onto the spot you are trying to get information about. Range, temperature, humidity and atmospheric wind speed are the most common. The default range device uses IR wavelength, but you can switch it to UV, if you prefer. It is simply intended to be outside the normal visual range and is adjustable, in the event you don't want it seen by common sensors or species that can see in those wavelengths. Those instructions will show you how to turn it on and off, as well as how to change the display position and so on. Personally, I find the temperature one to be very handy, so I know by looking at my coffee if it is the right temperature or not. I don't know about you, but I've never been one for cold coffee."

Chuckling a little, “I prefer iced coffee, as opposed to hot coffee. I didn’t get much training on the functions of my implant. Is it hard to activate those features?" Stated Mike.

Something Jez said caught his attention. “Wait, Jez, what did you say? Mike inquired.

Jez knew she couldn’t keep it a secret. In fact, maybe Mike could help with the Custody Battle? Jez let out a deep sigh and said, “I’m pregnant with Devynn’s baby, but he doesn’t want his child to be raised by a Half Breed,” Announced Jez, her tone a mixture of sadness and frustration.

Mike, picking up on Jez’s tone, felt upset for her. Mike, ever protective, felt his temper starting to rise. It was bad enough that Devynn was a prejudiced elitist moron about mixed-race people, but to try to separate a mother from her child was just unconscionable.

Mike got off the exam table and hugged Jez, “ I’m happy for you if you're happy.”

Jez felt her emotions melt out of her. It had been a while since she felt this safe, as Mike gently rocked her back and forth.

Cindy gestured to the PADD Mike was now holding and repeated, "The instructions are rather simple, but they should have given you a user's manual when it was done. They may have even done so originally, but might not have included it with your initial installation. Sometimes these things are included with updates. Either way, your hardware is holding up well and you now have the current updates, You might find it easier to see. There will be less strain on the muscles and optic nerve, but your body is still organic and will age, so a recalibration is going to always need to be done every so often. I'm working on better adaptive software, but it isn't quite ready yet, but given another year, it just might be ready for release."

Jez then told Mike about the child and Cindy gave a small sigh, "Jez..." There was a pause, "...technically, you're not pregnant right now. In fact, it has been long enough that to resume the pregnancy, your body would require at least a month of hormonal therapy to prepare it to resume the pregnancy, more likely, two months. You do have an unborn child, but you are not currently carrying it. If you wish to resume being pregnant, we can arrange for you to sit down with the CMO and discuss beginning the treatments to make that happen. Would you like me to make you an appointment with the CMO?"

Cindy continued to offer the same warm smile, ignoring the fact that she may have said more than she should have. Cindy could be so human that it was hard to believe she wasn't, but at a moment like this, it was sometimes hard to tell if the flaw it was her programming or her personality.

Mike listened as Cindy spoke, "The instructions are rather simple, but they should have given you a user's manual when it was done. Mike couldn't recall if they had ever given him instructions; maybe they did, but he wasn’t sure, chances are he lost them. The years before his retirement were chaotic to say the least.

“I don’t know, maybe they did, but I probably lost them. I’m sorry.” Mike said, his tone almost apologetic.  “Truth be told, I’m more of a hands-on kind of learner.” He added.

Jez had to smile; it was the first time she had seen Mike squirm at the grilling by a female. Normally, Mike was Viking’s things and Vikings that, but he was acting more like a teenage boy, being chastised by his mother over a bad grade. Jez was waiting for Cindy to say, "Young man, just wait till your father sees it!”  It was so funny,  it almost brought a tear to her eye.

Teddy Bear must be getting soft in his old age.

When Cindy mentioned continuing the pregnancy, it gave Jez pause. If she implanted the egg, then Devynn couldn’t take custody of the unborn child, but Jez wasn’t sure if that would affect her recent promotion; could she be Acting Chief of Security while pregnant? The bigger question was whether implanting the egg and continuing the pregnancy would guarantee that Devynn wouldn’t get custody of the baby.

Jez also wondered if it would be possible to remove Devynn’s genetic material and replace it with someone else’s, someone like Commander Talion or Mike’s. Ideally, Commander Talion’s genetic material would be ideal; a Betazoid as powerful as Alex might be an incredible benefit, not to mention If the baby inherited  Alex’s intelligence.

“ Cindy, for now, let's see what the result of the investigation is. If someone is targeting my family, maybe bringing a baby into the world right now isn’t the smartest move.” Suggest Jez.

Cindy continued with her best efforts at bedside manner and told Mike, "Give those instructions a chance and if you feel you need some one on one instruction, we can set up a time where we can go through some of the practicle exercises that we might run through with a new recipient and get you the full treatment. I'm sure we would be able to find out what you know and what you need to know and move from there. I've taught countless people and worked with even some of the most extreme cases. You're a smart guy and strike me as a fast learner, so it sould be a breeze."

Narrowing her eyes and considering for a second, she then said, "I thin I recall Jez telling me that you were her martial arts instructor. I think we might be able to help you synchronize the data flow rate with your own reaction speed and skills in ways that they may not have considered at the time. Martial arts practitioners are more in tune with their periferal vision and picking up on minute body movements to anticipate the actions of their opponents. I've taught a great many students and I think you might benefit from some unique settings adjustments that a man like yourself would appreciate. I can't help you with the physical training and other health aspects without clearance from Alex, but I can help remove barriers to improving your hand and eye coordination. The skill is still your own, but it won't be your injury holding you back any longer."

She nodded and stated it as if it were a fact, "We're going to set you up with some Holodeck time and come calibration exercises to ensure that you're in as good of shape as you can deliver. After that, it is all up to you."

When Jez then questioned the safety of continuing the pregnancy without knowing more about the investigation, Cindy nodded in agreement, "You make a valid point. Right now, it has the best chance of survival by waiting. You should make certain that the environment is as sucure as you can make it before taking further risks. Let me know if you have any other questions or considerations that you're concerned about. I'm always here to help."

Jez couldn’t help but smile as Mike was doing his best to charm Cindy, but when Cindy more or less shot him down, his ego deflated like an old balloon.  To the casual observer, Mike was flirting while only a month into his grieving process. Jez couldn’t help but think that it was true that people grieve in their own way. Mike flirts, and Jez teases. Jez couldn’t help but feel relieved that Mike was flirting, considering that he could have gone on a drinking binge or something equally as destructive.

Geez, does he realize he’s making a fool out of himself?

Jez smiled and whispered to Mike, “You’re old enough to be her grandfather.”

==Commander Michael Denton Chief of Security( Retired), Temp NRC ==

Mike smiled when Cindy suggested that he was a smart guy and struck her as a fast learner. Mike blushed, “Well, I do pick up things rather quickly.” Said Mike.

Mike found Cindy captivating, he never found artificial life forms odd or frightening, unlike so many, especially after the events on Mars, in 2485 when synthetic life forms, the A500 synths attacked Mars destroying the Utopia Planitia Ship Yards, Mike was more open minded, he never blamed artificial life forms, he knew that the artificial life forms were learning, growing, he remembered reading about the attacks days after it happened, he had always suspected that the Romulans had been involved along.

At hearing, Jez suggesting that he was old, Mike felt a bit defensive, “I am not old,” Quipped Mike.

When Cindy asked about his martial arts prowess, Mike’s ego balloon started to inflate, “Yes, I’ve used my training in Kendo, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga to try and teach Mrs. Funny Pants here a few things.”  Replied Mike. “Come on, I’m sure Cindy has a lot of work to attend to, besides, we have to talk. “ Said Jez as she playfully patted Mike’s paunch.

“Arggghh…Grow up..” Quipped Mike.  Mike quickly ignored Jez and turned his attention back to Cindy. Said, "We're going to set you up with some Holodeck time and come calibration exercises to ensure that you're in as good a shape as you can deliver. After that, it is all up to you."

“I would like that.” Said Mike. "Cindy, out of curiosity, do you have a combat sub routine?” He added.

=Lieutenant Jez Mala, Betazoid/ Vulcan, Security Officer, Acting Security Chief.==

Jez was feeling a bit restless, all this talk of Death. Pregnancy and revenge were becoming a lot to process. Yes, a million questions were coursing through her mind: Who would do something like this, and why? Not to mention the whole custody battle.  What could someone possibly gain by doing this? Were her parents involved in something questionable? What she needed was to channel her physical rage into a productive workout, relieve her stress, and feel normal again, even if only for a brief time.

Jez perked up a little at the mention of Holodeck training.  “Hey Teddy Bear, I have five strips of Gold-pressed latinum that says I can take you in one round.” Taunted Jez. Jez knew that would get Mike going.

“Chuckling, “ Ohhhh, you’re on Miss Funny Pants!!" replied Mike. “Cindy, you want to come watch me fold him like a piece of paper?” Asked Jez, with a smirk on her face.

I really need to talk with Lieutenant Tate. Thought Jez.  Tate was more than just a Counselor; she was a friend, and Jez knew that a workout would help, but talking to Tate would help just as much, if not more.

“If you'll excuse me, I have to take care of something.” Announced Jez, her voice distant. Jez tapped her commbadge, “ Mala to Tate, can you meet me in my quarters?”  Jez then turned to Mike, come with me, please.” Stated Jez.

Cindy replied to Mike, "A combat subroutine?" Cindy paused a moment, giving a hint of a blush and tried not to laugh, "You are correct in that I'm a synthetic, but I promise that you're not familiar with my kind. I don't have a subroutine for combat, but I have extensive training as well as combat experience. I've trained Marine Search and Rescue teams and the Valkyries are an experienced unit. We're no longer active with the Marines, but the girls stay busy."

Cindy chuckled at the banter between the two, "Jez, you should never mock a man who has managed to reach such an age in a profession that tends to end lives early. It means that more than luck has accounted for those years of experience." Looking back to Mike, she said, "Mike, if you were inquiring about me with an interest in some sparring that might be more of a challenge that you're used to, I am available for such consultations. Perhaps we can discuss it when we have that meeting on the holodeck."

She gave him a devilish grin and a wink before Jez pulled him away.

Julia and Surik along with both animals walked towards the counselors office in sickbay so she can lay down on the couch for a bit before going back to work. As soon as Troy laid down her head on the pillow of the couch she fell asleep for a good while in the counselors office while Surik went to the medical lab next to the counselors office.

It wasn't 4 hours when Julia woke up with a little bit of back pain and was surprised that it didn't start while she was at the party with everyone else. Both animals noticed a change in her and Spike went and got Surik so he can get the CMO cause Troy knew that it was time. Julia and the triplets tried waiting till the 10th month mark unfortunately she knew that multiple births can come early.

Surik came back into the office and noticed that it was time. He had to get ahold of the CMO so he tapped the com badge.

[Surik to Aanil O'Shea it's time. The triplets are ready to make their appearance.]

It was a great party they had with everyone had a great time, and they didn't over drink. There might be a few people who did, and they were going to be treated as they came in. The process never took more than a few seconds, it was just a matter of rehydration.

This was the time that Raymond was going on his rounds to make sure that everything was stocked up, even with the couple of drinks he had it wasn't enough for him to hinder his judgment. When he was going by the Counsellors office Raymond couldn't help but to over hear.

"I am here to help." Raymond started. "Do you have arrangements for a particular birthing? Some people love the water birthing, it would take a couple of minutes but we can get it done before its time." He wasn't sure where the good doctor was, but she was already alerted to the change.

==Sorry to keep you waiting==

"Thank you Surik" the CMO replied to the comm.

Aanil was aware of a new patient entering sickbay but for the moment she was distracted by a rather complex report regarding some new medical protocols that were being suggested by Star Fleet.

She knew that Raymond would greet the patient and took the time to quickly reply to the report before crossing sickbay to join Raymond and the Counsellor.

She noted that it was in fact Julia Troy and she was not surprised; the babies were not going to wait. Aanil nodded to Surik, thanking him for the notice.

"So, it's time I see Julia" Aanil greeted the young woman warmly as she gowned up and approached the medical bed followed by two other Med staff also fully ready. The scans showed that the babies were indeed quite prepared to join them..

"It looks like you are indeed ready Julia, so just relax. This is not my first multiple births and my team were aware and we did prepare.." she added, while nodding to Red; indicating that she wanted him to join her. Red was good at keeping patients calm.

While she initiated the scans, the CMO turned to Surik indicating that he could stay in the room but; "I do need you to step back and give us room," she asked politely.

Looking over what the Medical sensors were showing her Aanil prepared to get started

Surik looked at Julia before she nodded at him to speak for her.

"Red Julia would just need a biobed ready before she gets there and there is no birthing plans set in place to give birth. Julia knows that it'll be as quick as they want to be. We already know the genders of all three babies and have decided on the names already."

Surik as walked Julia over to the bed to deliver the triplets when he noticed the CMO coming over. They both listened to her when she spoke to them. Surik stepped back behind Julia that way he was out of the way and close enough to support Julia in the process. He gotten a totally different look from Julia when she realized something that she needs to do or have Surik himself do it once the triplets are born. Surik heard her say that she was ready to push.

Troy looked up at Surik and nodded to him to let them know that she wants a song from the early 21st century played.

Surik spoke up "Dr O'Shea Julia would like a song from the early 21st century called "Little Child" that is sung by Lucy Lawless to help her to stay calm while giving birth"

Hearing that the time of birthing had arrived Aanil assembled her medical team including incubators and all necessary support personnel and equipment. Additional physicians waited; each prepared to take one of the infants from the CMO allowing Aanil to focus on the health and well being of the mother.

The music was initiated as requested and all of her team were gathered around. All present knew their responsibilities and were ready to care for each of the infants, in turn.

It appeared that Julia was indeed ready to give birth and Aanil standing by the bed spoke quietly to her counsellor.

"We are all ready for when you are Julia; lets bring these little bundles into the world shall we?"

Julia nodded her head while saying that she is ready to bring her two girls and boy into the world. She knew that it'll be a lot of work delivering them and really tired and sore afterwards. Both parents had already chosen the first names of all three when they found out what the genders were and had chosen the middle names for them right before she a nap and the pain started.

She needed to start pushing as soon as possible so that they can tell the names of the triplets.

Surik stayed a little bit behind Julia while holding her hand with one hand and the other hand on her back. With the music playing it has kept Julia calm so she wouldn't cry out in pain while delivering the triplets.

Cindy had quietly strolled in and was observing. As everything was being prepared, she glanced to the monitor and reported, "Well, this is going delightfully well. Dilation is at a full ten centimeters, all heart rates are nominal and the contractions are proceeding within parameters."

Looking to Julia, Cindy said, "You're doing great, Julia. Just keep breathing through the contractions until you feel the need to push."

Aanil then said, "We are all ready for when you are Julia, lets bring these little bundles into the world shall we?"

Julia started to push as she was instructed to push, and while pushing she was squeezing Surik's hand. Surik was giving her a lot of support and strength to keep going to push the little ones out. Troy knew that they can come into the world in any order and they had names picked out for the two girls and boy. She hoped that the girls would be born first then the boy, and she doesn't know which one will come out first.

In between pushing she took a small break before pushing again, and she hoped that their abilities wouldn't be switched on from birth like her late sister and her abilities were. Troy sensed that Spike and Dot were lying down on the inside of the sickbays doors and being out of the way watching and giving her the extra support that she needed to keep going.

She is greatfull that she has the help to bring them into the world and the support to raise them right. Julia knows that they need to let Captain Brooks and first officer Velaul know that the triplets have been born once the triplets come into the world.

She knows that all of her strength would be spent by the time all three little ones are born.

As the first girl was born, the doctor methodically and routinely went about the task of clamping and cutting the umbilical cord and handing it off. The doctor focused on the mother and delivering the other two babies while those assisting took care of them once they were out. They would quickly be cleaned and inspected. It was critical to verify an infant's APGAR score, to determine its status.

When the first girl was born they took her to be checked over. The person that had her had seen that the APGAR is normal with the appearance is pink, the pulse is 120, the grimace is the she cries and pulls away, the activity is normal active movement, and the respiration is a really strong cry, which is all perfectly normal for a healthy baby girl.

Julia's second girl started coming out and she hasn't rested much in-between each of the babies. Once they are born she could relax for a few minutes. Troy had heard the cry of the first baby and briefly was told it was a girl and now there is more that will come out a little more quickly.

Reddington had just finished working on the cleaning up of the first infant and Cindy helped by swaddling it with a nice clean baby blanket that was pink to indicate the sex of the child. It was moving and responding well, which she reported.

"Julia, your first little girl is very healthy. We have a perfect score on her first check. Keep doing your breathing, you're doing great."

Predictably, the second one began to crown almost instantly, the way having been travelled once, the second was delivering even easier now. Once again, in perfect textbook version of a multiple birth, the second girl slid out with only a nominal push from Julia and the Doctor worked her magic again. Hands moved with practiced speed and accuracy, then handing the second over for the others to begin testing and cleaning up.

The third would be the boy, but Cindy waited to see how it progressed before doing anything else.

Seeing that the first newborn was in good hands Aanil took the time to reassess the mother's vitals and smiled warmly as the assessment of her came back solid.

"That's terrific news Julia. Cindy's got your first born well in care so how about we give her a sibling hmmn?"

Drawing the birthing team back around her; Dr. O'Shea smiled positively at the quick arrival of the second. The team was coordinated; ready and the new child was also quite enthusiastic. and with smooth precision she was born.

"All good Julia and the baby is looking great." Aanil's team cradled the child while she dealt with the mother. Seeing that Julia got some hydration; Dr. O'Shea did a full check of her vitals; which did look positive and it appeared that she would be ready for the last birth.

She leaned in and whispered softly " They are both healthy Julia and let's see if we can coax your little boy to be just as cooperative."

She stood back up, prepping herself and winked for Julia. "All ready momma lets bring your little boy into the world shall we? PUSH!"

When the second girl was born they have taken her to clean her up and check her out. With her APGAR it was normal with the appearance she was pink, her pulse was 115-120, she cries and pulls away on the grimace, with the activity being active movement, and a really strong cry on the respiration.

Julia had heard both girls crying really well and had gotten hydrated before pushing the baby boy out along with the after birth. Troy knew that he came a little quicker than both girls and she heard him crying when he came out.

The boy would have been taken to be cleaned and checked out. With the boy he was normal like his two sisters. His APGAR is normal. His appearance is pink, pulse was 120, he also crys and pulls away on the grimace, active movement for the activity, and a strong cry for the respiration.

Julia spoke to Surik and told him to change the couch and the couch cushions in the counselors office before anyone sits on the couch.

== Temp. NRC - Crewman Nick Druer, Medical Administrative Technician ==

Reveille had come earlier than what was normally scheduled for Ethan--0500, to be precise. The main reason was that, technically, he still hadn't been fully processed. He had a long day ahead of him, which included (among other things) an appointment in Sick Bay. He'd already gone through a pre-deployment physical before leaving Earth, but on starships it was also required that incoming crew be assessed by their department's primary physician before officially starting their tour of duty. According to his orders, Ethan was due at 0545, which only gave him about ten minutes to get ready, twenty-five to rush down to the officers' mess for a hasty breakfast, and another ten to make his way down to Medical. Thankfully, the ship's computer made navigating the dozens of identical passageways simple, and he got to the reception area with two minutes to spare.

The place seemed fairly quiet, although Ethan was sure it wouldn't be that way for long. The shift change at 0600 would bring in a fresh group of doctors and nurses, not to mention any crew coming in for checkups after getting off work. There would also probably be a few civilians coming in later for their own appointments starting around H8 or H9.

"Good morning, sir," greeted a young crewman at the front desk. "Checking in?"

"Yeah," answered Ethan. "I've got an initial physical today, but I'm not sure which doc I'm reporting to."

"No problem sir, I can help with that. What's the name?"

"Diaz, Ethan K."

The crewman sat down again and typed a few things on his computer terminal. "Perfect. I've got your information right here, sir. You're still on the Processing list, so the PLS Office should have already forwarded your file to us."

He reached down and produced a PADD, handing it off to Ethan. "Okay, I'll just need you to fill out this form, and then the doctor should be ready for you shortly."

Ethan nodded and thanked the crewman before settling down in an empty chair. While he began entering his name and serial number and all the rest, he tried not to think about all the unpleasant memories he had of other hospitals back on Lambda Minor. He'd been to a couple specialized treatment centers too--both as a visitor and a patient. He'd give just about anything to forget about that phase of his life.

As the boy was the last one, he was placed on the mother's chest as they finished up welcoming him. The good doctor once more went through the entire routine with the little one before they took him off to be cleaned and checked over. They then began the process of finally dealing with the afterbirth and making sure mom was doing well after everything she had been through.

The bot appeared to come through with flying colors, a great accomplishment, all things considered. He was cleaned up and swaddled as well. The girls were then brought over first for their first meal, as only mother can provide. This was actually a final test, to see if they would naturally latch and have a proper sucking response to nursing. Cindy reported their lengths and weights as she gave the good news about their APGAR scores. The boy was handed to the father while waiting his turn for his first meal.

When the two girls were handed to her for the first feeding she noticed that the oldest of the two was trying to fight it till she heard her sister latch on and started to eat, and finally latched on to start eating herself. Julia knew which names for each one and waited to be asked what their names are so she could give the names of all three to them. Troy knew that she wasn't ready for anyone just yet till she fed the triplets and rested for a while and they might be ready for everyone to come and see them.

Troy knew that Captain Brooks, the first officer Velaul, and her mother needs to know that the triplets have been born. Julia could tell that they were really good eaters after a minute or so and knew that she might have to put the access that comes into bottles. She knew that she was worn out after all of that work to bring them into the world and is happy that they are here. Julia could tell that they didn't have their abilities turned on when they came out into the world and was relieved about that cause her late younger sister and her had all of their abilities turned on since birth.

== We can't have our new Tactical Officer waiting forever... ==

After a few long minutes, a female in a medical uniform, but wearing no rank approached Ethan. She had relatively short blond hair and a cute smile. Removing gloves on her way toward him and disposing of them in a  receptacle, she stopped a couple of paces in front of him.

"Mister Diaz? Or do you prefer Ethan?"

She held out her hand to take the PADD and then ushered him over to a bio-bed, "Hop on up there." Glancing over the information, she then set the PADD down, "Sorry about all the noise and small wait, we just got a few new additions to the ship's roster, though I think it will be a while before they appear on any duty roster. Infants are SO hard to train. How are you feeling? Are you getting settled in alright?"

While she waited for him to respond, she made a small gesture with her hand and a privacy curtain materialized around the area, she then said, "I'm required to ask you if you feel comfortable seeing just me. If you wish, I can have another member of the team join us, of whatever preference you wish. I want you to feel comfortable about this before we continue. I sometimes encounter people who are intimidated by me. I don't entirely understand why, but out of respect, I make sure I give patients a chance to express themselves. So, are you good with this, or shall I call in someone for you?"

== Tag Ethan. Feel free to roll with this however you like. You started this (not a bad idea), so I'm giving you someone to work with. ==

The entire process of assisting with the birth of the three infants was surprisingly easier than Aanil had expected, While the family were enjoying the moments the CMO took time to individually scan and record all relevant medical data.

All were healthy and of a surprising robust weight. As was her routine with any and all complex medical processes Dr. O'Shea took the time to catalog all of the process, potentially as a learning tool for future multiple births; but also taking into account the applicable chain of events which gave any and all families who might also have more than one child a way to judge the progress of their impending family additions.

Once the log was complete, having taken the time to feel that she wasn't intruding she approached and smiling warmly greeted the happy parents.

"Congratulations , you have three healthy babies and there is nothing in the test results to expect that you will have any medical issues going forward. I am going to keep you here over night so we can continue to monitor mother and infants to be certain that we didn't miss anything; but;" and she paused smiling;
"I see absolutely no cause for concern and the stay is simply born out of an abundance of caution on my part. I suggest that you take the time to get at least some rest Julia and the staff that will be here round the clock til I discharge you.

Do you have any questions?"

Julia and Surik had listened to what their department head said and she knew that she was right about staying overnight for anything that might happen. She did come up with a couple of questions to ask, while Surik couldn't think of anything. Troy knew that the three newborns were half Vulcan and half Betazoid and was relieved that their abilities weren't turned on like hers and her late sisters was.

"There is a couple of questions that I would like to ask. One when do we fill out and sign the forms for the birth certificates for the triplets?, and when will we get them? I know that Captain Brooks along with the first officer Velaul and my mother would like to be informed of their birth. It is understandable to keep me along with the newborns overnight."

Troy can't wait to get back to somewhat normal.

Mike limped into Sickbay with more than just a bruised ego; he mentally reviewed the sparring session he had with Jez. For the life of him, he couldn’t figure out how she had bested him.

She hit like a hammer. Thought Mike, as he rubbed his midsection. Jez had hit him in places he forgot existed. She was like lightning. It was punch, counter punch, Kick, deflect, redirect. Mike reviewed the sparing session, and he realized that Jez was flawless in her technique

Maybe I taught her too well. She hits harder than a Klingon.

Mike sparred with Jez for two reasons, one was that Jez wouldn’t speak of her true feelings about her parents' death, he knew she would chew on it mentally, but also so she could work out her frustrations through physical activity, better to let it out than to bottle it up.

It made no sense. Mike was a former Chief of Security and a Martial Artist; his entire life, he had taught Jez everything she knew. Mike had never felt more embarrassed. Yes, she was younger and more agile, only because she was smaller.  Mike grimaced in pain as he walked into Medical.

Mike had to think of something to say, as Star Fleet required its medical staff to report all injuries. Yes, he knew that the Doctor wouldn’t get on subspace radio and report it, but document it regularly; he knew the chances of anyone reading the logs were remote, but he had been embarrassed enough lately.

Think, Mike, think, what are you going to say if they ask you what happened? I fell, yeah… I fell. If any of my friends found out a Little Rabbit bested me, I would never live it down.

Mike spotted a lovely red-haired lieutenant. She was a petite beauty, her hair was long and loose, like a lave flow. She was approximately five feet two, and if she weighed fifty kilos, he would be surprised. Her complexion was flawless, if not a tad pale, but her eyes were a beautiful shade of green, like Brazilian emeralds, which popped against her light complexion and were framed by that brilliant red hair.

She must not get shore leave much with a complexion like that?

Mike had to chuckle to himself. She’s so tiny, Thought Mike, but at his size of foot seven and one hundred seventy-two kilos, he often felt a bit out of place.

Mike had taken basic field medicine as part of his Security training, but it had been years ago, and he felt like Jez may have fractured, if not broken, a couple of ribs. He knew for certain he had a large bruise between his navel and his solar plexus.

“Excuse me, Lieutenant, can I get some help?” Said Mike, his teeth clenched, fighting the pain.

Please, in the name of Odin, don’t ask how this happened. Mike stood there waiting for the Lieutenant to respond.

Julia had a lot of questions but now was not the time to worry about paperwork. Her staff were drawing up all necessary forms and when the timing was right the parents would get them, and at the requests Aanil paused by the bed adding. "You have JUST given birth to three babies Julia. They need to be fed and rested and so do you. For the time being I want you to focus on those priorities."

She paused and continued "There will be time once you are rested and they are asleep for us to deal with Tonight you will spend here where we can monitor yours and the children's wellbeing, alright. Surik can contact the Captain if he wishes or I will; your choice. But for now, it seems I have an injured officer to treat."

The CMO assigned two of her best to keep watch and monitor the family while she crossed the floor to the med bed which had an injured older officer waiting patiently. Aanil recognized the older man who seemed a bit agitated and tried to make him feel welcome. "Commander Denton, I can tell by the way you are wincing and moving carefully that you have some pains, and bruises that need tending. While I gather myself why don't you fill me in on where it hurts. hmmn?"

Mike stood there, The woman whose instincts told him was the Chief Medical Officer addressed him. "Commander Denton, I can tell by the way you are wincing and moving carefully that you have some pains and bruises that need tending. While I gather myself, why don't you fill me in on where it hurts? Hmmn?"

“Trying to smile, Mike chuckled slightly, but grimaced in discomfort. “I’m not a Commander anymore, I’m retired,” Said Mike as if "retired" was a foul-tasting word. "Please, call me Mike.” Said Mike, doing his best to work through the discomfort.

Mike took a few breaths, “My ribs, the area between my stomach and solar plexus, my hip on the right side,” said Mike between clenched teeth.

Mike felt relieved to a degree, Whew…at least she didn’t ask me how this happened, and hopefully she won’t.

Mike knew that Jez landed some very good hits; if it wasn’t for his big belly absorbing the energy from Jez’s punches, he probably would have really been hurt. Still, he knew that there had been real anger-driven power in her punches, but he knew Jez needed to release her anger and frustrations; it was her way of dealing with the loss of her parents and friends.

Mike was still trying to figure out how a woman, some twenty-five years younger than him and smaller than him, got the best of him.

I taught her everything she knows, thought Mike. To the casual observer, Mike was clearly not coping well with the idea that he was no longer twenty-five years old anymore and that a woman had bested him.

Julia listened to what else she said and nodded her head in agreement. Troy looked at Surik to see if he would contact the Captain and he shook his head no. She knew that she needed a way to tell the infants apart and remembered that she had three adjustable bracelets with three different colors and their names on them.

"Okay, unfortunately Surik doesn't want to contact him, it's okay if you can for us since he is in a bliss of being a new father."

After replying to her department head Troy nodded to one of the nurses to help her put the bracelets on the wrists of the infants.

"Nurse the pink bracelet with Elizabeth T'Ple on the first born girl, the purple bracelet with Mary T'Prul on the second born girl, and the teal blue bracelet on Michael T'Kin on the boy. Don't worry the bracelets are adjustable and are a touch loose so they can stay on without falling off."
