The door to the briefing room slid shut behind them, enclosing Commander Ameen, Commander Keir, and Doctor O’Fee in a pocket of quiet away from the bridge.

The room was pure Starfleet function. No fancy wood paneling or huge observation lounge windows like on a Luna-class. Just a heavy, dark gray metal table bolted to the floor, surrounded by about eight sturdy chairs. A large display screen dominated the far wall, currently dark. It was a no-nonsense room for a no-nonsense ship.

Ameen walked to the head of the table and gestured to the chairs. "Please, have a seat."

Once they were settled, Morad looked directly at his Chief Medical Officer, his expression serious. He folded his hands on the table in front of him.

"Doctor," Ameen began, his voice calm and even, "you said on the bridge that we have a 'conundrum' and that parts of your report were best kept off the official record. You have our full attention. The floor is yours."

Making herself comfortable there was a lot of material to go over, no one can complicate things like a Trill. She remembered reporting the conundrum, and the circumstances that it was reported.

"Off of the Official records I do have my concerns that would be a non issue with the previous Host, now we are looking at a whole new set of problems. I have a hunch that his behavior when you first met him was.." Evie had a hard time to put the next words together. "Acting in a way that is best left in the Pub, places where alcohol and bad decisions walk hand in hand. In the same place Evie would have slapped him so hard that her hand print would sting for a week

"The first thirty hours have gone by were the most curtail medically, however that isn't my concern at this time." Evie wanted to word it in the best way possible. "I am not sure how many have been Host to this Symbiont, but I do know each Host is imprinted onto the Symbiont." She continued to think about how to word it better again.

"Lets say for instance that C'had is host number six, he has five personalities guiding him and more often then not this can influence the currant host. That is equal in personality and in taste, for a short while it is possible that while the transition was going on how he behaved before and after can be two separate things. I can't tell you if he was a horn dog before he was joined or after, the big red flag didn't come out until something he said."

Evie took a second to remember what was said. "He said that the Symbiont hasn't had sex in a couple of hundred years, the issue is the Symbiont wouldn't get the satisfaction that we would get from mating with our special someone." It didn't have to be their special person, but that point was moot.

"The symbiont does not influence the behavior nor does it require sex, both of those are something that the Host desires. I am concerned that C'had might have a hard time keeping it together and act appropriately, if he acts the same way he did here... I don't want to imagine what might happen.." Evie just dropped a ton of information and wasn't sure if she covered everything. "Do you have any questions?" There might even be something she could cover a little more clearly.

Ameen listened intently, his fingers steepled in front of him on the table as Doctor O’Fee laid out the "conundrum." He processed her words, the initial medical concern giving way to a far more complicated and unpredictable personnel issue. When she finished, the quiet in the no-nonsense briefing room felt heavy.

So, it's not a medical rejection risk, Ameen thought, his mind recalibrating the entire situation. It's a professionalism rejection risk. The symbiont is fine, but the new host... C'had... might be a walking diplomatic incident. The "fun" he mentioned wasn't just a bad joke...

He glanced at Keir, then back at the Doctor.

"Thank you for your candor, Doctor," Ameen said, his voice calm and even, masking the 'what have we gotten ourselves into' feeling that was starting to creep in. "That certainly clarifies the nature of our... situation. Your assessment of the host's personality being the primary driver is a critical piece of information."

He paused, choosing his next words carefully.

I need to be careful here. O'Fee's instincts are to correct and control, which is what a good doctor does. But the mission brief... 'highest regard,' 'every request must be met.' That sounds less like a suggestion and more like a direct order from the Trill government, relayed through the Federation. Our job isn't to fix C'had, it's to get him to the negotiation table happy and willing to work...

"Doctor, your concern for the mission's integrity is noted, and it's valid," Ameen began, leaning forward slightly. "However, we have to consider the unique nature of our guest and our orders. Ambassador Junde was explicit: Kestir is to be held in the 'highest regard,' and 'every request must be met.' The dossier also notes Kestir's history of success is tied to... unconventional methods, like immersing in local cultures."

He looked from O'Fee to Keir, framing his next point as a command strategy. "It's possible... that this host's... exuberance... is part of his process. Or perhaps, as you said, an influence from past hosts that needs to run its course. Forcing a confrontation or imposing strict discipline right now, especially after a traumatic emergency joining, could be counter-productive. It might sour him on this crew, this ship, and by extension, the mission itself. An unhappy or resentful negotiator is an ineffective one."

And an ineffective negotiator means we fail, he thought. Simple as that...

"For now," Ameen continued, his tone shifting from analytical to decisive, "our approach must be one of accommodation and observation, not correction, unless his behavior directly endangers himself, the crew, or the ship. We will provide a professional, secure, and supportive environment. We will give him the space he needs to... acclimate."

He turned to his CMO directly.

"Doctor, I need you to continue monitoring him, but from a supportive standpoint. Assess his psychological state, ensure he's coping with the new joining, but hold off on any behavioral interventions for now. Your medical expertise is our safety net here, not our disciplinary arm."

Then, he looked to his First Officer.

"Commander Keir, your thoughts on this approach?"

Keir listened intently to both the Doctor; whose opinion was well presented and framed from a purely and appropriately 'Medical" perspective as well as the Commander whose focus was on maintaining the Ambassador's symbiont in such a way to enable the successful completion of the peace talks.

Nothing about this was covered in any Star Fleet protocol that Keir had read, but there was no doubt that as s/he understood the Commander's inferences.
Drawing a breath Keir turned to the others. "It would appear that we do what we can to keep him entertained and distracted for the time being. Clearly as a young man he has had certain physiological differences from a centuries old host and he is trying to explore that; but we do need to keep the focus on saving lives which his mission has the potential to do.

The mission is, in the greater scope of things a relatively a short term one, so if we are able to clearly show him the possible consequences of a failure, then maybe we can give him an incentive to focus on that life saving purpose and then get back to his life. "

The young Hermat shrugged "I do appreciate his actions in a way. I am only about two decades old; and have had to learn how to focus on more than just what is going on around me: and step back to see the bigger picture. A war between these cultures is a very big picture."

S/he turned to face the CO. "I am aware that was not exactly what you wanted from me, but physiologically I do understand his behavior."

Evie heard the Commanders message, and had a small blush because she knew that ship had already started to sail. He already seen her as an Authoritarian, there was something more that normally wouldn't be reported, this was one of those times where it would be one of those times.

"Commander I am afraid that I have some good and bad news, the bad news is he already sees me as an Authoritarian. I didn't exactly enjoy the scene he created in Sickbay, as a result he sees me this way. The good news is that he has taken a shine to Doctor Tyris-McEntyre, and I believe the feeling is mutual." She just hoped that the encounter wasn't going to be one of those one night stands.

"On the Official records I have listed as his primary physician, and Nurse Dawes has Medical Authority as head nurse. This leaves Emery free to go on the date that date that was recently set up, ordinarily something I wouldn't feel the need to report. In this case it fits what we need he is in a position to help him go through the paces, and he isn't in a position that would compromise his medical code of ethics." She knew that the Commander was right in this approach, its also part of the reason she started to back down.

Morad turned to his First Officer.

"Keir, your perspective on his age and the need to guide him toward the mission's importance is also very insightful. A war between these cultures is indeed the bigger picture."

He then focused on the new, critical piece of information Dr. O'Fee had provided.

"Doctor, you said Mediator Kestir has taken a shine to Midshipman Tyris-McEntyre. That's not a problem. That's an opportunity. It gives us a positive point of contact, a way to build rapport." He paused for a second then continued. "I want you to assign Midshipman Tyris-McEntyre as the Mediator's primary medical liaison. He will handle the routine check-ins, be the first point of contact for any non-emergency needs, and generally serve as a friendly face from your department. It leverages a connection that's already forming and allows you, as Chief Medical Officer, to maintain a necessary professional distance, which seems prudent given your initial interaction."

Ameen looked from O'Fee to Keir. "We will provide a professional and supportive environment. We will give him the space he needs to acclimate, and we will use the channels he seems most open to. For now, this information stays in this room."

He offered a slight nod, indicating that part of the discussion was addressed. "Now, unless there are other immediate concerns, we have a dinner to prepare for. One that is now a critical first-contact assessment. Let's get back to our duties."

There was nothing more that Evie needed to say, there was still some work to do before the big dinner. They had to get Sickbay in order to make sure that if something goes wrong, Doctors would be on standby. "Commanders I have nothing more that we need to go over, other than hopefully there will be a good Irish stew there." A lot of Families have their own recopies, a tweak here or there to make the dish a little more special.

"I guess I should assign Pinocchio his Jiminy Cricket, with hopes he turns into a real boy." Evie let out a little chuckle. "Just getting it out of my system." She couldn't talk like that out there, even if C'had wouldn't get it. She couldn't be talking like that out there, or it could spread.

"Now if you will pardon me I have some preparations to take care of, my Staff will be ready for anything with hopes nothing happens." She was already dismissed and started to get back to sickbay. If all goes well the guidance of Emery he would be able to guide him back to where he should be.

Ameen listened as his senior officers gave their final thoughts. He gave a slight, almost imperceptible smile at Doctor O'Fee's "Pinocchio" comment.

A little gallows humor. Good. It means she's processing and moving forward...

He appreciated her professionalism, even if her initial approach had been a little... rigid.

He then looked to his First Officer. Keir's support and insightful perspective had been invaluable in navigating this. They had a plan, a strange one, but a plan nonetheless.

"Alright," Ameen said, pushing his chair back and standing up, a clear signal that the meeting was over. "We have our approach. Doctor, thank you for bringing this to our attention. I'll expect your report on the liaison assignment."

"Commander," he turned to his First Officer. "Let's get back to the bridge. We have a dinner to oversee and a ship to run."

With that, he headed for the door, expecting Keir to follow. The 'conundrum' wasn't solved, not by a long shot, but at least now they had a direction.
