The ship had barely arrived at the new jump location when Tom said to himself, "That was a rougher ride than it should have been..."
The reports then started coming in about the failed inertial dampening system, causing Tom to thump a fist unto the console, yet trying to restrain himself, "Damn..."
Taking a breath, he spoke up, "Sir, that was the only one of those we get. If you want another of those, we're going to have to go to warp and keep going, then return normally. If we do another short jump, more people are going to die in the process. I'm sorry sir, the ship just can't deliver those kinds of moves like she once could."
He felt terrible and wanted to scream, but there was no time for such selfishness. He had already been thinking about his flying and the adrenaline of the old days in a fighter, but not thinking about if the ship had really been up to the task. He had just gotten some people killed. If he hadn't thought he could do the jump, they would have thought of something else and those people would still be alive. Shaking his head to clear the thoughts, he pushed himself to focus. They weren't out of this mess and if they made another such mistake, they might all die. There would be plenty of time for blame later. Save lives first...

Seeing the indications on the status board, closed his eyes briefly before saying, "Ensign Baldwin, I need you to take over the Security Station here on the Bridge and advise the Captain as needed. Coordinate with Ops to make sure whoever they send down to cover the main deflector operations now, there needs to be at least two of them and they need to be medically trained. They're not going to be prepared for what their work area is going to look like and they certainly can't be left there alone. I'm going to go there to assist until they are able to find people who can handle the job. I'll have to keep the deflector operating until they can manage to take it over." He paused and then said in a lower tone, "Most people have not seen the kind of thing they will see today. Even I don't want to see it, but I am prepared for it and have gotten used to such moments more than I care to admit."
Turning to the CO, "Sir, I'm moving to secure the Main Deflector until those stations are manned again. Baldwin will remain on the Bridge, sir."
While already beginning to move toward the door, he glanced at Ava. For what felt like a very long moment, Gath hesitated. For the first time, he felt was he had always known was a risk. His heart skipped a beat and he felt the sing that only comes with deep emotion. The brief thought of an icicle stabbed into his chest...but it was instantly chased away by the strength it gave him. The mental image of ice was replaced by fire. His emotions were not going to stop him, they would inspire him. He had people to protect and things to live for, so he needed to get to work. In reality, his hesitation was barely a blink. It only seemed a long moment in his mind. It was just long enough that his and Ava's eyes met before he exited the Bridge.

== Unless there is anything that keeps him on the Bridge, he is going to head to head to the Secondary Hull. Even those with strong constitutions will be needing a moment to deposit their breakfast on the deck prior to being able to operate in a functioning capacity in that moment. Gath won't lose his breakfast and he knows it. ==
