A message came back for the First Officer, with the same priority and clearance level as the message that had been sent out. It contained but three words, and they were not words that the Klingon-heavy-genetics Security Chief was known for. Rather than state the obvious by commenting on the situation, or quote some great work of Klingon opera or poetry, or even a typical battle cry, it said something quite unexpected.
[I love you.]
There would be no more exchanging of messages after this; their Hail Mary plan would either work or it wouldn’t.
Elsewhere, Security NCO N’Zinga Vincent had just stepped off the turbolift when the signals for Red Alert went off. The hallways were now being bombarded with people evacuating certain areas. No one needed to be in the ship’s lounge or lunchroom, and judging from the amount of blue, the Science Department was being emptied, as well. No need for any stellar cartography when you were praying to the gods and hoping against hope that you would survive the next couple of minutes.
