== Sorry, been dealing with illness and a couple of REALLY REALLY FUN emergencies. ==
They had less time than T'Lari had hoped.
"T'Lari, be prepared to dump the mines. Flint, on my order, full impulse on whatever course puts the mines between us and them."
She nodded reflexively even though she knew Braggins wouldn't be looking her way. "Aye Captain, on your order."
Hope is the province of fools; trust to what is real and what you can change. The words of Surak passed through her mind, a residue of her semi-failed education on Vulcan after escaping the Romulan mining colony she'd grown up on. But regardless the half-Vulcan/half-Romulan felt the calm of battle. It was the only time she really felt truly Vulcan, as contradictory as that seemed to be. She'd grown to accept it, and if she didn't quite welcome the calm it was at least useful. She wouldn't lose her 'cool' (as the humans put it) during the battle... assuming they lived more than a few seconds.
"T'Lari, release the mines."
T'Lari confirmed the order and keyed the launch sequence in. The Yeager gently unloaded its cargo of probes. Scientific instruments no more, they each carried a massive punch. There was enough antimatter in them to give anyone a bad day. The Glennis had also departed, as per the Captain's order. Starfleet would hear about this, if nothing else.
"Go, Flint! Red alert! Quantum torpedoes at the Dreadnought, full spread!"
"Quantum torpedoes, full spread, aye. Safeties off, firing." The order for quantums always had to be confirmed verbally, and T'Lari was as much a stickler for regulations on that front as the First Officer. She'd already anticipated the order and had drawn a bead on the dreadnought, ready to go. Keying in the authorization override the tactical officer unloaded the launchers straight at the massive Cardassian ship. The reload command was already underway. It didn't take a tactician to know that Braggins would empty the torpedo lockers of quantums at the first opportunity. Several humans in the Tactical school at the Academy had called it "mag dumping," and although she usually found such an idea wasteful they would need whatever edge they could.
They weren't going to survive by being careful.
== GM input, please: How do the Cardassians receive our lovely gifts? ==
