They had continued to enjoy their night with friends. Emma introduced Reyna, who had actually decided to drop the spots for a more honest effort to be herself. There was lots of small talk, some dancing and just general socializing. It turned into a more popular gathering than they had expected, and it grew by a couple more people over the next few days. Emma grew even more comfortable and familiar with the program and people began to get more used to Reyna with this new look, so much so that most completely forgot that she was younger than they were. Things were actually coming together in their little holographic hideaway...until things changed...
There was an announcement and the program froze, gave a warning and then slowly shut down. They were evacuating the ship. It stunned everyone and some began running for the door, but Reyna grabbed Emma by the wrist and calmly said, "Hang on...take a breath and just trust me a moment. If this is real, then..."
That was all she got out before Thor, who was sitting in front of them transformed into a woman with long dark hair pulled back into a ponytail. She glanced around and simply said, "Reyna, are you ready?"
Reyna looked a little worried and mumbled to herself, "Oh crap..." She quickly recovered though and nodded, "Yes, we're ready."
Reyna turned to Emma and said, "Stay close to me. There is a plan and this is not a drill."
The woman looked at Emma, gave a confident and slightly sassy grin and said, "Hi, I'm Sarah. I'll be your pilot today. We need to move, so stay close. If you get seperated from us, stay where you are and I'll find you. If all goes as planned, we'll be out of here in no time."
As they began to leave the now empty holodeck, Sarah asked, "Has he been briefed?"
Reyna replied, "No, not yet. We never really got to that part."
"Safety first, kiddo."
Reyna showed her age a little by sounding like she was trying to explain about not doing her homework, "I know, but we were having so much fun and so much fo this was already new to him...I thought I had more time."
Surprisingly, Sarah seemed to understand, "I know, kid. We always think we have more time. You'll have time to catch him up once we're safe. For now, we walk to the station and then to their Shuttle Bay. Don't run, it will only waste time and energy. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast, now let's go."
Reyna continued to hold Emma's hand as they followed Sarah, but Reyna was practically leading Emma. Little was said until they got all the way to the Shuttle Bay where there was a beat up Danube Runabout that was outfitted with a unique pulse phaser turret on the top and had some scorch marks from impacts of energy weapons here and there on the hull. There were also some indications of Special Operations designations near the hatch. Standing at the door was another version of Sarah, this one in a worn flight suit but also wearing light tactical armor over it and a weapon strapped to her in flight configuration.
The two Sarahs locked eyes for a moment and then the one turned back into Thor, barked once and climbed into the craft. The second Sarah shook her head and said to herself, "I'm never going to get used to that." She then sighed, smiled a motherly smile at Emma as she hugged Reyna. "This is a new look for you both, but we can talk about it later. Right now, get in and take a seat, we're out of here."
The name on the side of the craft said "Valkyrie". They were still finding seats when they felt the ship starting to already move. They were only under way a short time when they dropped out of warp to meet another ship. Emma heard the pilot, Sarah only say to Reyna, "We'll make you as comfy as we can until we get you home. Once this is all over, we'll get you back with your parents."
Emma had not heard the pilot contact the other ship at all, things simply happened and faster and smoother than thought possible. The other ship didn't even actually stop to let them land. Sarah brought the ship into the bay of a Defiant Class while it was still moving.
Reyna turned to Emma and said, "Have you ever been to Betazed? It seems strange to some people, because the people there don't talk out loud much, so the quiet is a bit unsettling at first. This is going to be like that...kind of..." She sighed, "I'll try to explain a bit more later, but...um...you're going to see where I grew up. Don't worry though, you're with me, so it will be fine."
When they stepped off of the Valkyrie, Cindy was waiting for them with a big smile and open arms. Her hair was longer and there was something different about her as she said, "We've missed you! Welcome back." When Cindy came over to Emma, she looked the teen up and down, "Welcome. Do you want us to call you Jason or Emma? If you're going to alternate, you might want to wear something with a name on it, so we know. Nobody here is telepathic other than your sister. We'll set you both up and you're perfectly safe and can stay as long as it takes...or if things go badly, until you outgrow us. We promise to soften the culture shock as much as possible. Maybe we start with getting you something to eat. It will be a relatively short trip of a few hours to our destination and then the real challenges start, but we'll take on thing at a time."
There was a strange sound like a bomb went off somewhere near, but nobody seemed to notice. There was a brief sensation of acceleration and then back to normal. Nobody seemed to think anything of it, including Reyna.
Reyna smiled at Emma and said, "Come on, follow me. I've got you."
