Jez looked at Cologero. The Commander Velaul hologram had placed Jez and Cologero in charge. She looked at him and said, “Cologero, this is what I think our course of action should be. What do you think?”
“We need to proceed carefully,” Jez said. “First, establish a safety perimeter around the cave entrance. No one goes inside, and we keep all unnecessary vehicles and shuttle traffic away from the mountain until we understand what we’re dealing with.”
In this situation Cologero knew that Jez would be the person in Command, if this had been a Bridge simulation it would be him. Now that he has that established it was like being the First Officer, keeping this in mind he wanted to present her with the best options available. She was right about not going in right away, this had the potential of carrying great risk to the team.
“Contact the Prometheus and have them send us everything they have—geological scans, archaeological records, sensor data, and communications logs. I want a complete analysis of the shuttle’s flight recorder as well. We need to know why it abandoned its original flight plan, why it made three passes over the cave, and what triggered those unexplained transmission bursts.” They were already in the process of getting in contact with the Prometheus to gain any information they can get, her line of questioning would give them all the answers needed.
Jez pointed toward the images of the tire tracks.
“We also need to determine who made those tracks. Use remote sensors to follow them and map the cave system without putting anyone underground. At the same time, identify the source of those power emissions and determine whether the ancient systems are actually stabilizing the mountain.”
She looked around the room.
“Until we know exactly what those systems are doing, nobody touches them. If they’re holding this mountain together, the last thing we want to do is shut them down.”
Jez was doing a great job taking charge like that she had a full grasp on the situation, Cologero couldn't help but to be impressed. It gave him the opportunity to also remember something. "Jez there is a communication style that employs short bursts like that, the repeating pattern suggests Morse code. I Suggest we find out what this code said, we should also see if there is another." Morse code didn't need a large amount of signal to get a message across like verbal and video, it was a crude communication style that worked.
Suddenly there was a realization that hit Cologero hard, he had the feeling about what function people had there. Jez was the established leader, Thorn could provide an insight to Talion while Young had an insight to Velaul. "Kalli that is absolutely brilliant is there anything else that Alex would do to stand out?" Looking in Carleys direction. "Carley is there something Beno would do or say that would draw attention to it? An action like Alex establishing a communications uplink? It could be even a code or phrase she uses a lot." The possibilities were endless making it a good thing if they were there, between Kalli and Carley they would be able to figure it out.
