Peter was not one to shrink from a fight. But not even the most battle-thirsty Klingon was normally suicidal. And trying to engage in this fight would be suicide. Not even the flagship could do it alone. It was so far beyond the realm of possibility that it was ridiculous. And yet...he wasn't sure that Braggins wouldn't try something damned foolish. Because the President's transport was there. And yes, he got it. It would be politically opportune to pull off something to make the President grateful.
However, gratitude didn't matter much if you were too dead to enjoy it. The most important part, however, was that if they died here in a foolhardy attempt at bravado, the Cardassians could hit hard and fast without anyone realizing it until they had delivered several decisive strikes.
It went against a lot of his being, but he leaned in towards Braggins so that hopefully only she could hear it, and spoke.
"Captain, I stronly counsel withdrawing and alerting Command. Sorry to state the obvious, but there is no possible way we'll win a fight here. And given the situation, they're not likely to be in a talkative mood. The Cardassians only talk when they sense either parity - to see if they can escape to fight another day - or their own weakness, in which case they'll try to stall. Neither is the case here. I know the President's transport is there. I also know that I see no way to get to the President that doesn't have the entire Cardassian fleet bearing down on us at once. And leaving us unable to warn Command", he said in a low voice.
He hated stepping back from a fight. But he would hate them being the cause of the rest of Starfleet being caught unawares even more.
