Jez and Mike entered the Sky bar. She was excited that Mike was staying, but also because Commander Velaul always created an amazing after-mission event, from a simple party to elaborate murder mysteries set in places like Old New Orleans or an old English Country estate. Jez had heard that Velaul actually recreated a murder and based it on Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile, but changed it because anyone who may have read it knows who the murderer was; but Beno’s amazing, brilliant mind created a new murderer, a new death, but kept to the style of Agatha Christie. Jez would have loved to run that Holoprogram.
A friend of hers who served with Velaul on the Ozaki told her of Velaul’s Murder Mystery set in eighteen hundreds New Orleans, was next level incredible, it was complete with Vampires, Voodoo practitioners, fortune tellers, Antebellum mansions, cobble stone streets and actual gas street lights, river boats the works, it was amazing her friend said, that Velaul didn’t miss a detail, it was said that it was hauntingly accurate. So it stood to reason that this after-mission event would be next-level amazing.
Jez whispered to Mike, “Be prepared to be amazed; Commander Velaul’s after-mission events are legendary.”
Mike looked around the Balcony of the sky bar; there were two shuttles parked on it facing away from the building. Both were open for people to go into, with backpacks that were set up for the whole crew. Each backpack contained basically the same things, Tricorder, Rations, phasers, medical kits, and everyone's favorite field rations. In the shuttle, they would find tents, climbing gear, rafts, and two kinds of drones. One that can fly, and the other is for land that can almost go anywhere. The thing that everyone could see that was in the back of the shuttle was an Armadillo, the ATV that everyone wants to drive. Standing between the shuttles was a hologram of Beno waiting to greet people as they got there, she was programmed to answer all questions when everyone got there.
“Looks like the gear we would use on remote digs,” Said Mike as he looked at Jez. Jez nodded in agreement. Jez’s parents often used ATV’s to access remote dig sites that they couldn’t get to by shuttles or if beaming could be problematic. Mike enjoyed the great outdoors, fresh air and sunshine, being close to nature. Nothing beats sleeping out under the stars.
Jez spotted Cologero; she looked around to see if K’Vada was with him, but she didn’t see her. In fact, she hadn’t seen K’Vada since she went to his cabin the other night. Jez hadn’t heard from K'Vada. Yes, K’Vada was still on board; she had seen evidence of K’Vada in their quarters. It’s just that K’Vada worked the Gama shift and Alex probably had her running some experiments, not that K’Vada would ever say no to Commander Talion, her idol, but Jez had a feeling that K'Vada and Cologero may have something brewing.
Jez spotted Kali the Aquila’s amazing Engineer Kali Thorn. Jez liked Kali; she was brilliant if not a little shy- no, not shy so much as reserved; at least that’s what Jez thought. Kali could appear at someone’s side without being noticed, like she just magically appeared, which left people thinking that Kali had some kind of personal cloaking device or was a member of the Q, but Jez truly liked Kali; once you got to know Kali, you couldn’t help but like her.
“Everyone, I want to introduce my Sensei, Commander Mike Denton.” Announced Jez, her voice filled with pride. Jez was truly proud of Mike. Jez hoped that the rest of the crew liked him.
Mike hated being put on the spot like that, and Jez knew it, but she couldn’t help it. He wasn't just her Sensei; he was a second father, mentor, and confidant all rolled into one.
Mike smiled and said, "I’m not on active duty; I’m a retired Security Chief.”
Jez turned to the Beno hologram, “So Commander, what are we doing? Going on a Mountain Climbing expedition or White Water rafting trip?” Said Jez, eager to know what was happening.
