Jez had finished her drink, she was feeling emotionally better, maybe the workout with Mike was what she needed, she wasn’t sure what was going on as far as her custody battle, she didn’t put anything past the Ukinix family. They were the Ninth House, rich, powerful, and corrupt, but she had Alex and his incredible resources in her corner. Alex was clever, incredibly intelligent. She wasn’t sure how she could possibly thank him for his incredible kindness. Jez finished her water. As she was about to leave, in hobbled Mike.
Ouch, I really hurt him.
Mike approached her, he was freshly trimmed, his short shaved sides with long hair on top, braids, and full beard, trimmed close and neat. But something was different: there was more pepper than salt this time.
Oh no he didn’t dye his hair.
Jez had to admit that Mike looked somewhat younger than he did before. Of course, Jez couldn’t resist teasing him. “ You know, coloring your hair doesn’t hide your real age, and you probably should have done your eyebrows as well.” Said Jez.
“Don’t start with me, I’m in no mood.” Said Mike. “And I have no idea what you're talking about.” Added Mike, his tone slightly offended.
Jez could tell Mike was being serious. “What’s wrong?” Said Jez, knowing full well that he was probably in pain from their sparring session. “Did I hurt you?” Taunted Jez.
“Oh, please, don’t flatter yourself. Has it ever occurred to you that I was holding back because I don’t want to hurt you.” Said Mike. Mike truly found Jez’s arrogance surprising. Yes, he trained her and she was powerful, but the idea that she a petite five-foot-nine-inch, one hundred and forty-five pounds could hurt or in any way incapacitate him, a six-foot-seven, three hundred and eighty pounds of pure Viking fury.
“Well, I’m ready for a rematch anytime you are, Teddy Bear,” Quipped Jez.
Mike just shook his head as if to say,” Why do I bother?” He knew that Jez was young and probably just dealing with the stress of her legal issues with Ukinix, so if giving him a hard time helped her deal with her stress, he didn’t mind.
“Look, Liten kanin (Little Rabbit) I’m leaving soon, and I have to file my flight plan with your F.O. said Mike.
“Wait, what, you’re leaving? “ Said Jez, her voice filled with disbelief. Jez had hoped that Mike would stay until the Valkyries returned. “You can’t leave; the Valkyries haven’t returned yet. “ protested Jez.
“Jez, I want to go to Earth and see my parents.” said Mike.
“I need you here.” Said Jez, her voice filled with slight annoyance. “Can’t you wait until the Valkyries get back, at least?” She added.
Jez opened her eyes wide; she had learned to take the dewy-eyed kid to an expert level, especially because it worked so well on Mike.
“Well, if you really have to go.” Said Jez, with her eyes starting to water.
“Mike put his hands on Jez’s shoulders.” Hey, come on now, come on, don’t cry.” Mike spotted Jez’s reflection in the window of Ten Forward; he saw her smirk. Enraged, “I know what you’re doing.” Said Mike. “What are you talking about?” Protested Jez.
Mike, a retired Star Fleet Chief of Security, could spot a faker from a mile away. “I know you have tried and played me since you were a kid; I’m wise to your antics.” Chuckled Mike.
Jez blinked in disbelief, “You knew, and didn’t say anything all these years.” Said Jez.
Chuckling, Mike said, “I love watching you try and outfox me. I found it entertaining, even a bit interesting.” Smirked Mike.
“As Jez blushed, “Please, stay until the Valkyries return.” Said Jez,
“Alright, alright,” said Mike.
"Let's go to my office, and you can give me some tips." Suggested Jez.
