The situation was, to use the old phrase, going to Hell in a handbasket. More Cardassian ships were arriving, and Jenny's simple 'let's take a peek and see if we can be a nuisance' idea was very rapidly degenerating into 'you're fucked and you know you are'. Outnumbered and vastly outgunned, no amount of superior intellect or tactics on her part, or bravery and skill of her crew, was going to change the fact that any direct engagement was going to be very short, and leave the Yeager's crew very dead (if they were lucky).
"Start planning the burst. So long as it doesn't fry our sensors as well, it's worth keeping up our sleeve."
When Qab'ataar made his quip about diplomatic relations not being an option, Jenny failed to suppress an amused snort. It wasn't fair to the Midshipman that she reacted in such a way, but the show trial had been widely broadcast and Jenny was well aware of at least two recordings circulating the lower decks in which the Cardassian Union had been forced to conclude that, by refusing to attend her trial on Cardassia, Jenny must be guilty of piracy and sentenced to death. With regret, of course, for the pain and suffering caused by the actions of one rogue Starfleet Captain.
"You could say that... I don't mean to laugh, but current circumstances aside...my family name isn't exactly known for its...diplomatic successes, shall we say? I'm the daughter of fighter pilots and married into a family of professional door-kickers."
Taking a deep breath, Jenny took stock of their situation. Outnumbered, outgunned, hundreds of light years from the closest support. In short, screwed.
"Flint, fire up the emergency communication laser, that runs the least risk of being detected. Order the Lowry to make best speed for the system's edge under Grey Mode, then run for the nearest friendly facility at full speed and call for help. Send them our most recent sensor logs, too."
Drumming her fingers on the console, Jenny ran through possible contingencies. They were too close to the Cardassians to simply make a break for it themselves, and if this was a full invasion force, as it certainly seemed to be, they were duty bound to at least try and do something about it. Does anyone have any brilliant ideas for how to slow them down? Hell, I'll take wild-ass guesses for what might work if that's all you've got."
