As soon as Braggins called for Battlestations, Peter almost instinctively strapped into his seat, to prevent flying across the room in case things got ugly.
He saw her point, honestly. These ships had violated Federation territory, and were making a habit of it. Also, they were definitely from a hostile foreign power.
The term "Benefit of the doubt" did not apply here.
He wasn't particularly liking their chances here, but he also knew that they couldn't just limp away. The Cardassian Union was like a wild animal in that sense. If you showed timdity or weakness, things only got worse. He pondered this when he was snapped back to reality at the sound of the voice of the new midshipman in blue.
It wasn't a bad suggestion, given what he'd been asked to do. Peter worried less about stopping it from leaving than about giving them an advantage in a potential fight, and stranding another vessel in the system seemed to just stack the cards against them. Then again, he had come to trust that the Captain knew what she was doing, at least most of the time.
