K’Vada took a seat, “Thank you, don’t mind if I do.” K’Vada was a bit surprised by Cologero’s question, "I am wondering K'Vada, what got you interested in Science? Like I got into Tactical because of my sports, I was good at calling plays and audibles. A change in the play to throw the other team off balance." K’Vada was surprised by his question in that she was good at so many things, her career could have taken several paths.
K’Vada is what one might call a Renaissance type person, She was somewhat of an amateur artist, she was a force to contend with when it came to Klingon Non-Energy weapons, like the Bat'leth and the Mek'leth, she was fluent in tlhIngan Hol, or as non Klingon called it Klingonese, as well as Federation basic, Vulcan, Bajoran, enough to have be understood, Cardassian, enough to be able to navigate directions, but couldn't read a menu at a Cardassian restaurant. K'Vada knew her way around History, but she loved Mysteries, and Science unlocked the mysteries of the Universe. K’Vada’s love of Science started in primary school, as a little girl growing up on the multicultural colony of New Berlin, it was a wonderful mix of different species, Klingon, Andorians, Bolians, Tellarites, Vulcans, and Humans. Humans and Klingons were considered a minority in that there wasn’t a large number of them. K’Vada’s mother was a Klingon xenobiologist, and her father is a Quantum Biochemist. So on one level, Science was in her blood, but on another level, K’Vada’s Parents took her to observe a Stellar Nursery.
K’Vada enjoyed the trip to the Stellar Nursery, but it was in middle school. K’Vada was often teased as she was half Klingon, Half Vulcan she didn’t fit in among her respective peer groups, She wasn’t Klingon enough for the Klingons, or Vulcan enough for the Vulcans, so she often found comfort in her studies, especially her Science Class, her Science Teacher, Mr. Borst, a handsome human in his mid forties, about six feet, five inches tall, brilliant blue eyes, black hair, a little bit of what the humans called a paunch. He had a way of explaining things that made Science fun. K’Vada was having trouble with an experiment in her Introduction to Xenobiology class; she really couldn’t ask her mother for help, not that her mother wouldn't help, it's just her mother was busy, and her father was also busy. They were both Professors at the University of New Berlin. So, K’Vada asked Mr. Borst for help. He told her to approach it like a mystery, and that’s when she developed a love for mystery novels. To say the least, she ended up getting an A in class. Not to mention, K'Vada had a little crush on Mr. Borst.
“Well, Cologero, what led me to the sciences was the mysteries behind the unknown. I want to learn the secrets of the Universe, to be the first to learn the hidden knowledge of how things work, but Science isn’t my only interest, as you know. Cologero, I’m curious. I was listening to Madama Butterfly, and if Cio-Cio-San, was a Geisha, and especially in your Earth’s early 20th century, specifically around the turn of the century, roughly 1900 to 1904, when Japan was still pretty much a Homogeneous Society, how was an American naval officer able to gain access to a Geisha? I thought the Japanese kept foreigners away?” Said K’Vada, her voice a mix of curiosity and reverence.
