A’kilees continued to watch Morad as he began conversing with the Apex Protector. It seemed to be calm and acknowledging the commander and becoming more aware of its surroundings. As the Apex Protector gaze met with him for a brief moment. The Protector exuded a sense of calm and absolute authority despite being in such a foreign environment with numerous alien species surrounding them. A’kilees wasn’t sure what to do at that moment but he bowed his head towards the alien in a welcoming and reassuring nod.
“A’kilees,” Sebastian whispered as he leaned in towards him. “Do you think these aliens could have encountered some sort of Iconian gateway technology?” he asked.
The saurian down looked towards his fellow midshipman and shook his head. “I wouldn’t think so.” A’kilees replied in a hushed tone as to not draw attention away from the first contact. “That technology is far too rare, even for the Federation. Plus they weren’t even capable of warp travel so I doubt they would have any understanding of trans-dimensional portals.” and turned his attention back towards the first contact proceedings. The Broken Arrow appeared to be the alien’s last ditch attempt to reach a far flung position on the other side of their known universe, probably using the last bit of their best technology to accomplish such a feat. If they had any other means to get anywhere else such as a portal, A’kilees thought that these people would have been desperate enough to use it regardless of where they would find themselves.
Amila made a move towards Sebastian who proceeded to broadcast another series of tones for the Apex Protector. She then reached for A'kilees’ console and typed, [We need to search the module for genetic seed. Can you help me with the language translation and see if we can figure out what it might mean, and if we could possibly have it?]
A’kilees nodded towards the Orion in silent acknowledgement and began to search quickly through the blackbox archive. What could they possibly mean by genetic seed? Perhaps the Apex Protector was referring to one of the other aliens still in cryostasis back at Sickbay, the alien device retrieved along with the pods, or perhaps it was something left back in the wreck of the Broken Arrow. Hopefully the alien database would give him a quick answer as he worked his clawed hands about the console screen.
