There was just the slightest of signs that he didn't like her honesty and truthfully, Tyra couldn't blame him. She supposed she could have fed him a line and it likely would have been easier in the short term. However, it didn't seem fair to not be upfront about his standing, regardless of how temporary his assignment might be.
He took a moment to consider her question before firing off a question that was unexpected to say the least.
“Neat, or on the rocks?”
Her head tilted for a moment before her lips curved into a genuine smile, accompanied by a small chuckle.
"In my younger years, I would say that is a very simple question but experience brings wisdom and minor bouts alcoholism."
"There are whiskeys that are perfect neat and unadulterated. They're simple and uncomplicated. And there whiskeys that require patience and just a little bit of melting to unlock a whole world of flavors."
Her smile muted slightly but one corner still curved upwards. "I've come to greatly appreciate the latter and consider it worth the patience."
“I believe I understand the current situation, Captain. I will endeavour to earn your trust, should it be attainable. Otherwise, I will do my duty with competency and diligence. If you prefer, I can handle the majority of the tasks required of us prior to launch. It would be an excellent learning opportunity for me, and I need less sleep than the average human.”
She smiled slightly, a hint of amusement tinting the expression. She wondered if her disdain for admin work was that legendary or if he was just astute enough to know a way to earn favor when he saw it.
