Ju was interested in languages as well, because they were always so interesting, and every culture with it’s own language seemed to have words that encompassed ideas rather than just a simple word.  This was apparently the case with the word that Hally stated, covered what Ju had said.  Not all seasons were good, and they didn’t always make great impacts, however, she knew that many of them had been lived for a reason.  They sometimes were put there to teach you a lesson, to give you something to take away from the experience, or to change you in some type of way.  Ju felt there was always a reason people came and went, she wasn’t sure if she believed in fate and destiny, but those were the words she could most closely align with them.

It turned out that Hally’s parents had not raised her either.  Hally’s parents were both Starfleet and a resistance officer, which meant she was mostly raised by her Grandparents.  Ju smiled kindly, because it was rare to find someone who had grown up in similar circumstances as Ju had.  Many of them had been all over the universe but to be raised by a grandparent was not as common as one might think.

“I was raised by my Halmoni, or my grandmother, as well,” Ju admitted with that same smile widening a bit.  “My mother was a science officer and my father was a tactical officer on a small Starfleet ship.  My brothers and I were raised in Korea by my grandmother, I hardly ever saw my actual parents.”

There was no real animosity towards her parents in her tone.  She had never felt that she had missed out on anything in her childhood.  Her halmoni had made sure they were well cared for.  She was strict but loving as Korean grandmothers often were.  She expected a lot out of her children and they were always pushed further and harder.  Because of this, all the Han children were successful.  Ju was the only one who had ventured into Starfleet, she hadn’t even told her parents.  She couldn’t remember the last time she had talked to them, probably her Halmoni’s funeral which had delayed her Starfleet testing initially.

Hally stated that she was a chronic over sharerer, causing Ju to laugh and take another sip of her drink.  “I don’t mind, I think I’m one of those people that kind of matches those around me.  So, I probably will over share too.”

Ardanna admitted that she was raised on a freighter and that her parents had been killed by pirates when she was young.  Ju’s heart hurt for her new found friend, because she understood losing a parent.  Halmoni had been her mother and her father, and her death had destroyed a part of Ju’s heart that had never fully mended.  There were times something small would remind her of Halmoni and she would feel the weight of grief all over again.  “I’m sorry to hear that, I understand that pain all too well.” Ju said with a softness to her tone.

Ju took another sip of her drink and then topped her small glass back off so that she could continue drinking and spending time with some new friends.  “Okay, lets discuss something uplifting.  We have covered Ardanna’s dating life, where we’re from, and what we did on leave.  What about….” Ju paused thinking.  “What do you ladies do when you aren’t on duty?  Besides drink with people you don’t know,” she laughed softly.
