Amila stepped over to Cortez, responding to his gesture, keeping her movements slow and controlled as the Captain spoke. She read the message on the data PADD, and nodded, approving of Cortez's decision to find a way to silently communicate his requests first, rather than interrupt this delicate process.
She used one hand to type a response, keeping her left hand beside her in a non-threatening position, openly visible.
[We need to establish friendly, open ended communication first. Let our guest lead the conversation,] she typed a response to Cortez quickly into the PADD.

She wasn't disregarding the idea entirely, but the alien had one focus now, it was the genetic seed, and it was important that the alien understand that they would not have destroyed it. If the alien was so genetically engineered for one purpose and understood itself to be an apex predator as the computer translated, then it was quite possible it's understanding of their technology outside of tactical capabilities was limited.
