Colin stood out from the crowd for many reasons. He wasn't a big man. Small in stature and whip thin. A receding hairline and a thin moustache that he thought made him look cool, but others often mocked him for behind his back. He was also the only red shirt wearing individual in a sea of orange walking about in the security hub.
He'd been tasked with physically checking the main armoury manifest. Weapons on charge. Weapons issued. Et al. Against the manifest the computer said there was supposed to be.
As was expected, everything matched up. Colin nodded to himself at a job well done. But he was a pen pusher. So he began counting again. Just to be sure. On his second pass, he noted one charge pack was fluctuating slightly. He pulled it. Examined it. Blew on the contacts and plugged it back in again. Then he logged the serial number. It seemed fine now.
He made a note to check that unit again in a few minutes. Just to be sure when he finished his second pass.
Ten minutes later he'd finished. And was happy that this task was complete and turned to exit the area so he could check on an auxiliary locker on deck 3 which he had previously reported for the cover being slightly sticky when opening.
As he headed toward the main entrance, he saw the Chief talking to one of her staff on his left. She looked as annoyed as she always looked in Colin's eyes, so he just kept walking.
