Though she expected someone from the Tactical Department to respond first, Art had to remind herself that this ship was different. There was no Chief Tactical Officer. In fact, in her opinion, there was barely a Tactical Department. She could name two officers off the top of her head, and one of them was that cocky, too-skilled-for-his-own-good pilot, Chertstone.
[Cassidy here.], reported in Medical, [Combat readiness is your job, Lieutenant. I’m just the cleanup crew. Sickbay inventory is looking good so far.]
A wry smile twitched on her lips as she silently agreed with the clearly-experienced man. One didn’t get to the point of being half-robot without running into a few “issues” in their line of work. She nodded at the message, content in knowing that the shelves were stocked with… whatever Sickbay used.
[Science here. We’re working on a plan to minimize our sensor profile.] Art liked a security-minded science team. [Let us know if the Treaty of Algeron dissolves while we’re en route. That would make our job a lot easier.] His quip earned an actual guaffaw from the Klingon COS, and served to remind her to bring up the treaty itself, if only to have it staring them in the face as a warning beacon.
It seemed the Federation were the only ones to be barred from using cloaking technology. It made sense for the Romulans to have cloaking technology, those sneaky, dishonorable bastards. Klingons had and openly used cloaking devices in order to do reconnisance for battles, among other things. The Vulcans? Art wasn’t sure of, but knew that they’d justify any use with the phrase “scientific research”. So why was the Federation banned? And just the Federation? That part was a mystery to her, and it annoyed her more than it should due to their current mission. The only thing that made her feel better about it, funnily enough, was knowledge that Captain J. Braggins could give a shit about rules and treaties if they stood in her way of getting the job done.
“You familiar with this?” She asked Wright, nodding towards the screen that was displaying the treaty in full. “I think we all need a brush-up.”
It was important to know exactly what the rules were, so you could figure out just how to skirt around and break them. It made Art feel dirty.
