Jez was happy that Mike had decided to stay; she was thrilled that Cindy offered to look at Mike’s ocular implant. She liked Cindy very much; she was so practical in her approach to everything.
Mike cringed a little when Cindy addressed him as Mister Dalton. Mike was only forty-eight years old. “Mister Dalton…Mister Dalton…!! My father isn’t here. Please call me Mike.” He said his voice was warm and friendly.
“Or you can call him Teddy Bear,” Teased Jez. Mike gave Jez a look as if to say she was pushing it.
Jez watched as Cindy looked around, and then Cindy pointed out, "The party is reaching the stage where some are departing for private celebrations, while some stay to linger and dance the night away. You're free to stay, but like it or not, you will need to confront your emotions sooner or later. The stages of grief are a fickle thing, and they will pass in their own time. You can't rush them, nor can you deny them. Even I have learned this difficult lesson over time."
Jez couldn’t bring herself to deal with her parents' deaths. She just wanted to have some fun right now, to go to her quarters and watch old subspace communications of her parents. To the casual observer, Jez was clearly in denial, and to a degree she was, but she had never dealt with anything like this before. It’s not like Star Fleet has a course, Dealing with the Death of a Family Member while in service. Or Mourning while a Star Fleet Officer.
I think I will talk with Dr. Troy, sort out my feelings, or maybe talk with Alex?
“Cindy, do you want to deal with Mike’s implant? Would you suggest the medical lab or your quarters?” Inquired Jez, her voice filled with a bit of curiosity, she had known Mike since she was a little girl and had no idea he had an ocular implant.
