In the week since they'd been docked in the Wairaran system, Papaver had been off duty. It wasn't her choice. The nearest thing they had to a counsellor aboard had pretty much ordered her to take the time off. Banned her from the labs and ordered complete rest.
Leaving her quarters was the easy part. Sitting in there alone had driven her up the wall. So she had spent her time in the holodecks when she could get a slot, and eating the mess hall everyday.
She had ditched the uniform in favour of a humongously oversized chunky jumper that had stretched out of all shape, with sleeves that hung past her hands and holes that should have been repaired a long time ago over a pair of leggings. No shoes, but a pair of neon pink threadbare bed socks that left a trail of shed fluff in her wake wherever she walked.
Sat in the far corner of the mess, she was sat sideways across two seats with her back the wall reading an old battered copy of 'The Long Earth'. A half eaten bowl of soggy cereal was on the table along with a tall sealed glass of a fruity bubble tea.
