Ameen held his coffee cup a little tighter, a slow breath escaping him. Of course. He had invited the Mediator into his sanctuary expecting a diplomatic crisis or a sudden insight into the Veld-Taveres conflict. Instead, he was being asked to approve a sequel to the welcome dinner.
He took a deliberate sip of his coffee, his eyes fixing on the enthusiastic Trill over the rim of the mug.
"A party," Ameen repeated, his voice calm but flat. He lowered the cup. "Mediator, in a week's time, we will be entering the Veld system. The only 'event' on our schedule for that timeframe is the commencement of high-stakes peace talks between two hostile worlds."
He walked around his desk and finally sat down, placing the mug on a coaster with a decisive clink. He looked up at C'had, his expression shifting from host to Commander.
"However," Ameen added, offering a compromise that served the mission. "If you are looking for motivation... I will authorize you to plan a celebration for the return trip. Let's call it a 'Victory Gala.' But that event is contingent on one thing: a signed treaty."
He leaned forward, steepling his fingers. "So, to ensure we get to have your party, we need to make sure you succeed. Lieutenant Ra'an mentioned you were reviewing the cultural files. How is your strategy coming along? The Veld delegation is known to be... particular."
