Alex glanced at the device on his wrist to read the update on Jonas. It was good that he was doing well, but typical that he had not been released by Medical yet. Either way, it was nothing new or significant for him to bother bringing up right then. He was glad that Cindy had been able to help out, but from the sounds of things, it was likely best that he keep Cindy a bit of a secret from these people. They seemed uncomfortable about such things.
The words of the President were not a comfort either. There had been an approved flight plan, but when there had not been a communication to verify, they opted to shoot the craft down. That seemed pretty extreme action against a ship that was expected to be carrying a diplomat. The degree of paranoia and distrust was so heavy that it could be felt in the room. It was interesting that the President wanted their input on these two people. Both choices were given reasons why they were not trusted, but it was clear that it really wouldn't matter who it was, they would be distrusted. These were not trusting people. Violence and intrigue were a way of life for these people and it made Alex glad that he wasn't going to need to continue working with them for much longer. It did not lend to an optimistic view for their future, but you never knew about how such things might change over time.
Alex glanced to Beno, but he said nothing. He didn't know what her plans might be on this, so it was best to remain silent. Since both were distrusted, both were of equal standing. Each was being investigated for different reasons, but it still came down to the same worries and insecurities. If it were up to Talion, he would suggest keeping a dialog open with them, but waiting until they could sort out their own mess in-house before serious consideration as members of the Federation. If they wanted it, they would work towards it. If they didn't want it badly enough, then it was just as well. An unstable member in the Federation was only inviting a weak link into the chain. If they couldn't see the benefits and were eager to remain buried in their internal struggles, then that was their choice. This was why there was so much effort not to interfere with the internal development of worlds. Yes, you could help them, but if they didn't do it for themselves, then any future developments became your credit or fault and not theirs.
