Jez along with the rest of the Away Team materialized onto a transporter pad in a dim room, the walls were of grey brick. Jez couldn’t help but notice the air was stale and cold, with a hint of moisture. The building that they’d beamed into seemed much older than any building that they had seen on the planet thus far. There were modern lights and computer terminals that had been installed later, it was a dramatic contrast to the antique construction. Jez could appreciate the antique architecture, as she had been in many grand ancient buildings
Jez instinctively looked up and spotted a lump in the ceiling that appeared to be an automated defense system, or a forcefield emitter. However, at the moment it remained retracted and inert as the away team stepped off the pad.
The transporter room’s singular door slid open, revealing a grand circular room that structurally bore a resemblance to the main chamber of a church. Despite that similarity, there was no obvious sign of any ritualistic or spiritual significance, no alter or religious signs to the space’s current layout. Pragmatic desks were laid out around the perimeter, likely belonging to Tanndi’s politicians and other elected officials. Jez noticed that the leather seats were well worn, but vacant at the moment. Jez couldn’t help but notice that the Tanndi seemed to have a simple, but understated elegance. Jez couldn’t help but notice the similarity between this chamber and the Ancient Hall of Ministers of Keldana V.
Suddenly a voice caught Jez’s attention “On behalf of the Tanndi nation, welcome to Riani,”
Jez looked up and saw a woman speaking. She was tall and thin, with stark white skin and elaborately braided hair style. Cybernetic implants as thin as micro fibers ran down her temples and neck like intricate tattoos or tribal symbols. The woman stood in the center of the room, a few feet from where the away team had emerged. “I’m President Samihah Khushkhu — pleased to make your acquaintance. This building is usually open to the public, but due to the sensitive nature of your visit, I asked to meet in private. I believe we have much to discuss.”
Jez noticed that the President stood calmly, waiting for the away team to approach. The tall windows behind her were tinted pink with the first signs of dawn. This fact made Jez uncomfortable, the President was here by herself, no body guards, no assistant.
Before anyone took a step Jez whispered to Commander Kurasa, “Commander, don’t you find it strange that President Khushkhu doesn’t have any body guards or assistants with her?” Sid Jez, her voice a mixture of confusion and concern.
