“Jessy, go check on that emergency bulkhead, make sure that secondary conduit is secure.”
Chief d’Tor’an growled out. Gary watched Jessy get up and head towards the door before he continued monitoring incoming reports and co-ordinating security movements across the ship when she spoke up again.
“Gary, go check on the main EPS conduit. Just… go see what it looks like and report.”
Keeping his face neutral, he nodded. As more of an after thought, he looked over his shoulder quickly as he stood to check that the new kid, Alden, was still holding himself together, before he followed Jessy toward the exit.
Good, good. He’s not frozen up yet.
“Where are the triplets? Aren’t they done whatever they’re doing yet? I need quick patrols all over the ship. We need to manually make sure things are the way they’re supposed to be.”
The Chief asked aloud, but to his surprise, Leo answered her before he could even open his mouth.
He’s learning quickly. And he’s still going under this pressure. Good.
Gary exited the office quickly and turned into the hallway, jogging slightly to catch up with Jessy as they would both need to take the turbo lift.
“Deck 6” Gary barked at the computer as the doors of the lift closed behind the pair. Gary offered a small, nervous smile to Jessy, wondering what she made of this whole situation.
What the actual….
One second he was smiling at her, and the next, he was looking up at her. Jessy had clearly braced against the wall when the ship's sudden lurch sent him downwards and onto his back. Another second passed before he blinked and rushed to his feet, putting his back against the wall on the opposite side of the lift.
“Who are you?” He demanded to the Vulcan woman who now stood where Jessy was only a moment ago.
His voice was different too. And as he looked around, so was the turbo lift. It was of an early 2370’s design. And so were the uniforms that he and the woman were wearing. Black and grey and of an older design.
“What the hell is happening!” he demanded again with his unfamiliar voice.
The eye roll that the Vulcan before him produced showed anything but a real Vulcan. It was an eye roll Gary had become accustomed to. The kind that was inexplicably a human female expression, a wordless gesture that said, ‘men are so useless’. It was the eye roll Jessy would usually give him when his humour crossed a line or when Gary had missed something so blindingly obvious during a normal security operation or even mundane day to day things like missing social queues or forgetting something the Jessy had told him yesterday.
