== Gotcha. Going to retcon the part where Mara came to the office. ==
“Don’t shoot the messenger, because I’m really running out of DHs who don’t want to kick my arse right now, but Calleja’s gone,” Beka said, seeing how irritated the CMO looked. “You OK? I mean, Calleja just… Well. I think she’s forgiven me. Even if I will be making sure she never has to see me eating popcorn ever again.”
Robin turned to her. There was a look in the CMO's eyes that Beka had never seen in all her time knowing the nurse. Anger.
"She what?" The nurse practically spat the last word. Robin took a breath, steadied herself. Now wasn't the time. "I'm glad, Beka. I really am. But I'm not going to put up with that crap from her. That has nothing to do with you. She seems to be under the impression that she can push people around, and that she doesn't have to follow orders. I don't care what she does in her department, but she's sure as hell not going to act that way in mine."
The CMO motioned to her friend to have a seat. "Glad you got your coffee, at least." She ordered herself her usual from her office replicator, but didn't sit down after it materialized. "You saw what happened in the staff meeting. She was about ready to haul off and hit Coleman during a meeting in front of two captains. One of which she'd basically accused of being a plant. And Coleman is a professional-level boxer. If I could pick up on it then it must have as obvious as a warp core breach to him." She blew out a breath.
Robin didn't openly say her real concern (besides the obvious), but this was playing on a worry she'd had since she took the job... that others wouldn't take her seriously. A nurse, an Augment, a tiny pixie who looked like she should still be in the Academy, she had three strikes against her... and one of them was huge. Her staff followed orders and did what they were told, but they were almost all green and hadn't been through a real crisis yet. Would they follow those orders when the hull was breached or there were enemy soldiers in the corridors? Would the doctors take orders from a nurse when the situation was grim? She didn't know. It was one reason she'd gone for command training, because if nothing else she needed the rank to back up her orders. And that was her staff. Fellow officers? Calleja had outright ignored her without so much as a word. Because she felt she could.
"This intimidation shit has to stop." Robin centered herself. She'd resolve the situation, but later. And Calleja wasn't going to like that conversation. The nurse shook her head and finally sat down. "Anyway. How are you feeling? I know that probably wasn't the conversation you wanted to have. Do you want to talk about it?" She took a sip of her coffee. "I know I've failed in my official best friend duty of nagging you. You've had a lot on your plate lately, much of that my fault."
