Beka watched as Mara left the room, before shaking her head slowly and getting herself the coffee she’d come in for originally.
I don’t know how I feel about that. Shellshocked? she thought to herself as the mug appeared on the replicator pad. I thought she was really going to tear into me, but she didn’t. And I got away with the hug without losing an arm.
The redhead left in time to see Robin stalking away, but not to actually hear what was said between the CMO and an almost puzzled-looking COS.
“Hey.” Calleja intercepted Sydesh. “I gotta leave your boss hangin’. Tell her I said sorry, but I gotta go. Need to go see what’s goin’ on upstairs.” Without another word or a backwards look, the Bandaran was gone, and the doctor shook her head and decided to honour the request.
She headed over to Robin’s office, knocked gently on the doorframe and took a step inside.
“Don’t shoot the messenger, because I’m really running out of DHs who don’t want to kick my arse right now, but Calleja’s gone,” Beka said, seeing how irritated the CMO looked. “You OK? I mean, Calleja just… Well. I think she’s forgiven me. Even if I will be making sure she never has to see me eating popcorn ever again.”
The doctor actually looked momentarily embarrassed. Baiting the Amazonian in a senior staff briefing had been one of her dumber decisions, and that was up against some pretty stiff competition.
