Engineering’s response was, in Art’s opinion, not wholly helpful.
[If we're in some kind of ion storm, we'd be blind and probably have some grounding issues.]
We’re in a whole lot of some storm, that’s for sure!
[I'm going to check out the hatch issue, since an automated closure command might not register with the level of electrical resistance present in the system.]
The Security Chief did not like the sound of that. Who’s to say that checking the hatch manually wouldn’t result in him being harmed? They had no idea what was going on around them. Art visibly frowned. “Be careful.” She said back, tapping her commbadge. A moment later: “Please report back when you’ve taken a look.”
If they were to believe the ship’s computer, the ship was falling apart. There was a base instinct somewhere in her that wanted to panic, wanted to run around and try to fix all the problems at once. Instead, Art took a deep breath. There were too many things going wrong -at once- to be a coincidence. Her current theory was that someone was intentionally messing with the sensors, but first she had to straighten out all that was happening because of it.
The voice of her new favorite Midshipman cut through the din that was the Security Department. He told her they were still getting reports in, and that the secondary EPS grid was what was damaged. That made sense. He went on to inform her that only the most basic of visual functions were available; magnification at the lowest level.
“Jadaris might be right, this doesn’t look like we’re in an ion storm.” Art looked to the screen where the race map was supposed to be laid out correctly. “If that EPS conduit rupture pushed feedback through the mainframe... could explain the sensor blackout.”
The Klingon leveled her breathing; this was all getting dangerously close to being out of her purview. The Middie brought up the hatch, the one thing that seemed to make it all click into place. She nodded her agreement, back to studying the race map, as if the answer was going to jump out at her if she looked at it hard enough.
In an ionic storm, or not in an ionic storm… she mused. Either way, she’d have to send people to go check on and secure the affected systems. Alden was busy looking at a message, so she looked over him for now.
“Jessy, go check on that emergency bulkhead, make sure that secondary conduit is secure.”
The woman nodded, and took off.
“Gary, go check on the main EPS conduit. Just… go see what it looks like and report.”
Keeping his face neutral, Gary left.
“Where are the triplets? Aren’t they done whatever they’re doing yet? I need quick patrols all over the ship. We need to manually make sure things are the way they’re supposed to be.”
