In the academy Hallowette had spent the majority of her time on training ships - vessels long past their prime or that had been so heavily damaged in the Dominion War that it was decided their last years were better utilized in rearing up the next generation of Starfleet officers and crew - Officers and crew that likely would see much more advanced technology even on their first postings - still though, the Cadet training ships were veterans of decades of service, and very often the Cadets themselves grew a certain fondness for their geriatric and broken ships - much like some of the long serving and imminently experienced professors there.
Hally's thoughts drifted back to one ship in particular, the USS Yr Wyddfa. The last of the Stargazer class hulls still operating at that time, its sensors were just barely modern enough for the cadets to be able to claim familiarity with what they might encounter once they got to their duty stations.
The Artemis most definitely was not that old Stargazer. As Hally initiated the scans of the system, she was amazed at just how thorough the scans were. Here, outside the majority of the nebula's interference, the Vesta Class vessel truly showed just how advanced and capable it really was.
"Captain..." she said, her eyes pouring over the data and collating it in a way that she could impart the findings as succinctly as possible. "Three defense platforms this side of the planet, all comprised of Dominion design profiles. Given that and what we know of Jem'Hadar defense doctrine during the way, we can reliably assume that there are two more on the far side of the planet. The Artemis should be capable of taking on one...or two of the platforms without much issue, but..." she calculated on the tactical display before her, "...that would require that we approach the assault in a ...delicate manner. If we trigger the rest of the defense grid, we would be hard pressed to survive without significant damage. They realize the vulnerability, and they've laid out the platforms in such a way that brute force...." she took a paused breath, "It isn't ideal, Sir."
She continued after a beat, "Otherwise the only enemy...err...unknown ship is a single B'rel class Bird of Prey. Sensors calculate posed risk to Artemis as...negligible." she turned in her chair, her husky voice finally bearing the confidence generally reserved for someone deserving of being on the bridge. "Sir, given the totality of the defenses, the fact that it is Dominion in origin, and what the team found in the freighter... a single B'rel seems suspicious. I believe there are more ships, either on the other side of the planet or cloaked in the area."
As she finished her briefing Engineering called the bridge, updating the status of the IFF. She listened and watched the Captains response to it before adding, "IFF or not Captain, we should proceed with caution. This just feels...off...to me."
