== NRC Gary, Alpha Shift Leader ==

Gary rolled his eyes. Not hard. Just enough to show he’d caught Jessy’s jab without rising to it.

Teasing me now, is that it? He thought, suppressing the ghost of a smirk.

“That was a nice thing you did there,” she said.

“I’ve seen what unchecked trauma can do to a young officer,” he replied, turning his gaze from the corridor where the team had disappeared, now turning to face Jessy.

“One minute they’re sharp as a blade, the next they’re folding five years of training into a box and handing it to a counsellor.”

He paused, then added with a touch more weight, “It’s not just a nice thing, Jess. It’s the right thing.”

She made a comment about the ‘three musketeers’ handling the job and the potential of a bigger problem. He could swear she was being sincere but also stifling another smirk at that final remark.

“They’re good eggs,” Gary said dryly. “Well-meaning. Mostly coordinated. But yeah… I’m expecting at least one wall scorched, one bruised ego, and a very creative incident report.”

Jessy tapped a few buttons on the console, expanding the display from the bridge. Gary straightened as the view shifted. First anomalies. Then an explosion. Then an alien vessel. Then...

He blinked as the face of a booming, overly enthusiastic man filled the screen.
He listened intently to the strangers' words. “Two visitors to our world" stood out most of all. With everything else happening, of course he wasn't paying attention to the outside. That was the job of the bridge officers.

Jessy nearly jumped. “Waitaminute. Excuse me, hold on, what the shit?” She exclaimed.

Gary stared at the screen in silence for a beat. Keeping his composure he moved to a personal console to obtain more information, to which his heart almost stopped again.

Cardassian. Keldon Class.

Os'rusa.

Of course. Of course this was happening.

Gary, with all his experience, nearly lost control of himself at that information so he mumbled under his breath half to himself and a little bit so Jessy could hear his frustrations too.

“Brilliant,” he muttered flatly. “Because when I woke up today, what I really hoped for was to enter a half-singed starship in a diplomatic drag race. No less against a race of elite hotshot pilots and even better than that is there's a surprise guest. Who is more surprise than guest.

He rubbed his temples once, then turned his eyes back to the scrolling security feeds.
