AQ/D01 - Ready Room

Daniel had been checking the lastest information coming in from Command, it been a while since he caught up with everything going on.

Once job he was yet to do was to pick a successor to the Chief of Security role after Kurasa had been reassigned. It was a difficult job to pick department heads. It wasn't something taken lightly as this was a very significant part of the ships command structure. He had been given a recommendation by the out going Chief of Security yet it didn't mean the person in question would accept. The recommendation for the offer of the role also came from the First Officer, having listened to their assistance in the last mission it certainly felt they were very well qualified for the role.

Taking a sip of his peppermint tea Daniel placed the PADD down on the desk and thought about the times in the past when he when he was first assigned to the USS Copernicus, that first mission he went on stuck with him, after he left the Academy. It was dealing with Klingons on a world which could have killed them. A few years later he was then promoted to Chief Medical Officer of the Copernicus, looking back he was clearly young and wet behind the ears and at one time he was the highest decorated department head in the area. It was moments like this he wondered where the years had gone.

Turning back to the PADD he pressed his commbadge, "Lieutenant Mala, Report to my ready room. Captain Brooks out."

Closing the channel, Daniel closed his eyes for a minute before taking another sip of his tea and letting the warm liquid glide down his throat.

Jez arrived at the Captains Ready Room, she felt anxious. She liked the Captain, he was the perfect image of a Star Fleet Officer, strong, confident, compassionate, decisive, dynamic and a true leader. Not to mention the females on board often thought of him as Captain Cutiepie. Yes, the Captain was very handsome and rugged looking. Jez couldn’t argue with the other women on board, except the Captain always seemed to have several days of facial stubble

When she thought of it, why couldn’t she have found a man like Captain Brooks as opposed to the disaster that was Devynn Ukinix

Jez reached out and activated the door chime, a few moments later the doors swished open and Jez stepped in,

“ Lieutenant Mala, reporting as ordered, sir.” Said Jez, her voice flat and neutral hoping to hide her nervousness. She stood at rigid attention waiting for the Captain to reply.

Brooks heard the door chime and put down his drink, standing up behind the desk he said,

"Enter."

The door slid back to reveal Mala and she stepped into the room.

“Lieutenant Mala, reporting as ordered, sir.” Said Jez, her voice flat and neutral, she stood at rigid attention.

Captain Brooks smiled to put her at ease and said, "Please take a seat Lieutenant, this is nothing to worry about."

Once they were both seated Daniel said,

"I have been looking at your service record and where Lieutenant Commander Kurasa has moved on to other things it has made a vacancy for one of my department heads. This position isn't an easy one for anyone who accepts this as department heads are the first line in crew issues and resolving any problems or concerns. Being one of them means the person offered the role should work closely with the First Officer to keep the ship running smoothly. They are also the First Officer's eyes and ears to each department and are an integral part of the ship's operation along with being a senior advisor to myself in certain situations."

He paused to let it sink in before adding,

"Having looked at your service record I would you to be one of my department heads. I like to offer you the role as Commander Kurasa successor as Acting Chief of Security of the USS Aquila. Would you be willing to accept?"

He asked his icy blue eyes studied Mala carefully for an answer.

==Tag Mala==

[Jez Mala]

Jez stood there waiting, then the Captain smiled to put her at ease and said, "Please take a seat Lieutenant, this is nothing to worry about."

Oh that smile.

Jez knew that the Captain hailed from the British Isles on Earth, She could help but wonder if all British men are so charming?

Jez took a seat, she was slightly less nervous than before. She sat there wondering what this meeting was about.

Jez was a bit surprised when the Captain mentioned Commander Kurasa moved on to other things, was she transferred or was she asked to stop down, or was there some other reason. Jez was truly baffled, Commander Kurasa always seemed so happy on the Aquila. She must have had her reasons thought Jez. 

"Having looked at your service record, I would like you to be one of my department heads. I would like to offer you the role as Commander Kurasa successor as Acting Chief of Security of the USS Aquila. Would you be willing to accept?"

He asked his icy blue eyes studied Mala carefully for an answer.

Jez sat there for a moment her brain couldn’t quite process what Brooks had just said,

Me???!!!!..Acting Security Chief am I worthy of that position? This is a huge responsibility. You can do it, You are capable. He wouldn’t have asked you if he didn’t think you could do it, Relax.

“Captain, I am honored to fill the vacancy that was caused by Commander Kurasa’s departure. I will do my best to live up to the standards set by Commander Kurasa.” Stated Mala, her voice filled with confidence, “ Oh Captain, on a personal note have you made up your mind about being a godfather to my baby? My Legal Advocate feels having a high ranking officer in my corner would straighten my position in the custody battle, and I would feel assured that if anything happened to me, that my child, if not raised by you would at least have your influence in their life,” Inquired Jez. “No pressure, you can refuse, I'll understand.” She added.

With this promotion Jez began to feel as if her life was starting to come into focus.

Daniel listened to Mala's reply and it reminded of him when he took over as Department Head from Commander Lee Ander, it was big shoes to fill considering he himself was only a Lieutenant Junior Grade and so early in his career to be made Chief Medical Officer of the USS Copernicus.

The adventures they had on that ship, it was the only ship he had served on the longest it would always carry a special place in his heart.

It was nice to hear her accept the role he was offering with trying to keep it to the standards of the outgoing Commander.

Mala then brought up being a Godparent to her baby at the end of what she had to say,

"First thing to do before we talk about your baby." he said,

"Computer, put on record on this stardate. Lieutenant Mala, Security is not simply about strength -it is about judgment, restraint and trust. You have demonstrated all three. It is my honour to about you as my Acting Chief of Security. Congratulations."

The computer beeped [Lieutenant Mala file updated and given access to the required systems.]

Brooks then sat back in his chair,

"Now that's done, as for your baby of course I would be happy to accept being the Godfather. I am very honored you asked me." he repiled.

Jez was filled with an incredible sense of pride when the Captain said, "Computer, put on record on this stardate. Lieutenant Mala, Security is not simply about strength -it is about judgment, restraint and trust. You have demonstrated all three. It is my honour to talk about you as my Acting Chief of Security. Congratulations."

Those words Acting Chief of Security,  filled her with an immense feeling of pride and accomplishment, she had always approached her job with determination, fairness and compassion. She wasn’t sure how she could do the job as well as Commander Kurasa, but she would do the very best she could, to make sure that the Captain made the right decision in making her Acting Security Chief, Jez would do everything in her power to make Acting Security Chief, just Chief of Security.

Jez was overjoyed that the Captain had agreed to be God father to her baby, she was confident that she made an excellent choice in asking the Captain to be a God father. She knew that if anything happened to her , her child would probably end up being a Doctor, she had to stifle a smile. She just kept picturing her baby talking like the Captain.

Hello, I’m Doctor Mala ( Heavy Hampshire accent).

“Thank you Captain, I appreciate your confidence in me, and I appreciate you being a Godfather Oh, and I was wondering if you would be offended if I used your name for my child, I was thinking if my baby is a girl I would name her Sasha Danielle. Or Daniel Sebastian if it’s a boy.” Said Jez, her voice filled with a mixture of hope and pride.

Daniel was pleased that Mala had accepted the role and looked forward to seeing her growth in it going forward.

She then asked about using his name in some kind of why for her baby.

"I wouldn't be offended but I'm sure there is plenty of other better names out there." he said with a smile before saying,

"I think this concludes this meeting, I do have others to attend to as there is a lot of moving around in personal at the moment, I will let you take the chance to get use to the feeling of being a Department Head on such a big ship, not many get that chance."

Daniel stood up and said, "Lieutenant Mala, you are dismissed."

Once Mala left the room he had another conversation that he was dreading as his Chief Tactical Officer Lieutenant Commander ch'Alev was taking on a mission that would require him to leave the Aquila, leaving a space in another department to be filled. He checked the clock and this meeting was due to start in ten minutes, it had already been put into his diary.

Jez was a bit surprised when the Captain said, "I wouldn't be offended but I'm sure there is plenty of other better names out there." He said with a smile Jez was a bit surprised that the Captain seemed uncomfortable with his name. She had always understood the name of Daniel to be a noble and most honorable name but Jez didn’t care she was happy. Not to mention, if she loses custody of her child name would be a moot point.

“Thank you, Captain, I will take that into consideration, but I do like the name Daniel.” Said Jez as she got up to leave. “Oh and, Captain, I will do my best to live up to your expectations and not let you down, again, I want to thank you for everything you’ve done for me.” Added Jez.

Jez left the Captain’s ready room, she was on cloud nine, she was excited, She felt as if her life was starting to come into focus. Her hard work and training was paying off.

It was nice to hear her comments that she will do her best to not let him down.

As the newly appointed Acting Chief of Security exited the room Daniel picked up Lieutenant Commander ch'Alev's role was due to change, and this was a meeting to decided who would be the officer to take over, the Andorian views was highly valued and respected.

However, ch'Alev had requested to step back from the role for a while as he was busy dealing with some work given across from Command and he didn't feel he could handle both roles.

The door buzzer went, "Enter." the Andorian walked in.

"Ah Commander ch'Alev, I hope you have had a good bit of shore leave."

"Yes Captain." the Andorian replied.

The Andorian took a seat as Brooks said,

"I'm looking at Coppola as your replacement. I was wondering what you are thinking."

Commander ch'Alev, "I quite agree the young man has proven himself well over the last missions. Of course I will be on hand if he needs guidance but I have every confidence in him."

Daniel smiled, "I am pleased you said that, I won't detain you from your work any longer."

The Andorian nodded, stood up and said "Thank you Captain."

The Commander exited the Ready Room and Daniel tapped his commbadge,

"Lieutenant Coppola, to my ready room. Brooks out." he closed the channel.

==Tag Coppola==

[Cologero Coppola]

was t wax a new day with endless possibilities, gaining the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade was expecting. The best part of all was spending all that time with a lovely lady, spending time with the crew being personable was almost as good. This was a better opportunity to get to know them as people, with that knowing exactly what they were capable of.

The announcement came from the Captain to report to his Ready Room, Cologero was almost ready to go. A clean Uniform with the new pip on his collar, Saint Jude was under his Uniform in a place of pride. He was equally as excited as nervous about the call, it could be about anything.  Either way he had to find out what, he loved being on the ship even more now there is a new member of Tactical.

The trip between his quarters and the Ready Room seemed longer than normal, he just thought it was just nervous energy getting the best of him. For him it was a simple act of one foot in front of the other until it was time, reaching out Cologero hit the chime waiting for the invitation to come in.

There was a small look of shock on his face for a second. "Captain Brooks Commander ch'Alev." Cologero said. He wasn't sure what the meeting was going to be about, but he had an idea, "I have been summoned?" His voice had confidence as his stance, the only hint of nervous energy could be felt by empathic powers.

Commander ch'alev gave Coppola a smile as Coppola entered the Ready Room,

"I will leave you to have a chat with the Captain." said the Andorian in response to Coppola as he left them to it.

"Mr Coppola, please take a seat." said Captain Brooks indicating the two chairs in front of his desk, once the officer was settled he said,

"Commander ch'Alev and myself have a quick discussion about a few things within the Tactical Department. The Commander has some stuff to sort out so this is why he has already left...." The Captain left it hanging in the air for a moment before saying.

"ch'Alev has got some orders which means he has to resign his current role as Chief Tactical Officer of this ship, it has put us in quite the perdicament within the department, as we need to look for a new CTO."

Daniel picked up a PADD and studied it for a moment, the room fell silent, this last for a minute or two before Brooks said,

"Myself and Commander ch'Alev have both come to the same conclusion, we would like you to become our Acting Chief Tactical officer of the USS Aquila. Are you willing to accept?"

==Tag Copppola==

[Cologero Coppola]

"Mr Coppola, please take a seat." said Captain Brooks indicating the two chairs in front of his desk, once the officer was settled he said. Watching ch'Alev left the room Cologero made himself comfortable, he had a feeling there was a bit of a conversation to be had. There was a lot of writing on the wall that suggested big changes were happening quickly, Cologero was chalking it up to part of their occupation. 

"Commander ch'Alev and myself have a quick discussion about a few things within the Tactical Department. The Commander has some stuff to sort out so this is why he has already left...." At this point Cologero could feel a push pull effect, kind of like an out of body experience. This wasn't a choice that came lightly for all parties involved, the offer was in fact flattering it shows confidence in his abilities. Logic was dictating the direction of this conversation, as it went with the writing on the wall. 

"ch'Alev has got some orders which means he has to resign his current role as Chief Tactical Officer of this ship, it has put us in quite the perdicament within the department, as we need to look for a new CTO."

Daniel picked up a PADD and studied it for a moment, the room fell silent, this last for a minute or two before Brooks said, "Myself and Commander ch'Alev have both come to the same conclusion, we would like you to become our Acting Chief Tactical officer of the USS Aquila. Are you willing to accept?" There was a brief time when Cologero was analyzing everything that happened during their last mission, he was comfortable with his choice that came next.

"Naturally Captain this isn't a choice I take lightly, the Commander leaves some big shoes to fill. Being well respected both as an Officer and person by the crew, I hope to achieve the same in my tenure as Acting Chief." With a delightful smile. "I am willing to accept the position, in time I hope to make it permeant." Cologero was excited to be part of this, a new strep into something better. The first step that he was going to take is learn everything he could, take this experience and expand on it. For the time he was going to enjoy what he has while having it, for him the adventure was always more important than the destination.
